As per Ontario law:

“To get an accessible parking permit, your healthcare practitioner must certify that you have one or more of the following health conditions:

cannot walk without assistance of another individual or of a brace, cane, crutch, lower limb prosthetic device or similar assistive device or who requires the assistance of a wheelchair,

suffers from lung disease to such an extent that his or her forced expiratory volume in one second is less than one litre,

portable oxygen is a medical necessity,

suffers from cardiovascular disease to such an extent that the individual’s functional capacity is classified as Class III or Class IV according to Nomenclature and Criteria for Diagnosis of Diseases of the Heart and Great Vessels, ninth edition, published by Little, Brown & Co. in 1994,

severely limited in the ability to walk due to an arthritic, neurological, musculoskeletal or orthopaedic condition,

visual acuity is 20/200 or poorer in the better eye with corrective lenses if required, or whose maximum field of vision using both eyes has a diameter of 20 degrees or less,

mobility is severely limited by one or more conditions or functional impairments”

So, someone could have a disability that qualifies them and still get a permit for a car like that. At least, in Ontario.

Drive one, maybe. Get back out of one, not so maybe.

Holy moly with the GTFAC reference. +5HP awarded.

Hand control conversion? Worked with a lady that had a Subaru converted to hand controls - pretty cool.

I once watched a track prepped Lotus Elise pull into the Babies R Us near where I work and a super pregnant woman get out of the drivers seat. Baby has a really cool mom.

I went searching for another video of a guy drifting with hand controls and found this. Wow.

Paraplegic here. Can totally drive a corvette and climb into and out of one. However, this person also might be someone with a heart condition or something and not a mobility impairment. Check for hand controls on the steering column.

And pretty easy to do. Just need an auto trans.

I think the dryness of the delivery was taken a little too literally: I know that being able to drive a corvette and being disabled aren’t truly incompatible. I think the joke only works if you’re over 40 years old maybe.

They’re parked at a children’s hospital which seems like it’d offer an explanation but really it only opens it up to more questions. Likely a visitor instead of a patient.

So what if I’m over 40 and disabled, can I be doubly offended? :D

Nah, I see where you’re coming from now. True story, twice in my disabled life I approached someone about parking in a handicap spot who turned out to be handicapped. First was in college and the lady turned out to have a heart condition but no visible impairment. She laid into me about it. Seems she was tired of people taking exception to her parking. Second was a young guy who was getting out of his car. He looked young and I thought I’d point out that he was in a handicap spot. He smiled and then popped out the wheelchair I didn’t see behind him. Egg on my face. You’d think I’d recognize one of my own.

There was just a post about this on a Corvette page on Facebook I’m in. It got about 300 angry replies and the OP was banned. In short, there’s a lot of reasons someone might have that tag in a Corvette.

Always better than “when are you due” or “do you know if it’s a boy or a girl yet?”

I watched a mate do that one in live time, to his customer.

News which was delivered quietly and with eye contact.

To make it worse she had just ordered a beer before he asked.
