What's up with Transit Connect van prices?

I’ve been looking at Ford Transit Connect vans in hopes of buying one for my business, but I’ve run into something that just doesn’t make sense to me.

There’s currently $3k dealer cash on 2016 Transit Connects and I have yet to find a dealer that will let one go for less than Sticker minus the dealer cash...like...won’t even budge. No call back, no “let me check with the manager”, just “NO” when you offer less than Sticker with dealer cash. There’s less dealer cash on 2017's, but they will come down to where the 2016 and 2017 end up being the same price. One of the dealers has a 2015! sitting on the lot new, and they won’t go less than $1k-2k off + dealer cash. It’s blowing my mind. One I’m looking at was built in February of 2016, so it’s been sitting on the lot for at least 15 months and another has been in inventory for over 12...and STILL they don’t budge. And TrueCar was saying they were giving $3-4k off sticker in my area depending on trim before dealer cash and now they just kept all the prices the same and are trying to pocket the cash. Anyway, is there something I’m missing? Because not budging on a volume vehicle you’ve been sitting on for over a year weirds me out.

Have you looked at a MB Metris? My dad got a great deal on them for his business. He got 5 for 2k under sticker, they replaced Ram C/V’s there were getting high in KMs. The Metris’s are going on 100,000kms now with out any major problems.

I’d say go used.

The Metris is alright, but I’d be wary of Mercedes grade issues.

How many miles a year?

Around 15k a year. I’m thinking I might have more luck with used also, the only down side is the reduced deduction. Still, super flabbergasted with how firm these guys are with Transit Connects, I didn’t have this much trouble negotiating my Focus RS deal.

I bought a pre owned 2014 in 2015 for a savings of $9k...write the mileage off, easier and more consistent.

Get the ecoboost if you can. Things are brutal on the highway and have zero mid range at power without the turbo. Passing takes precision timing! Power numbers are similar, but delivery is better.

I’ll bet you it’s because a lot of people buying Transit Connects buy them in bulk. Bulk pricing, means discounts. That’s probably why they aren’t willing to give you any breaks.

Keep calling dealers. My last 3 trucks have all been from over 150 miles away. My 07 and 09 Ram 2500 4x4 bought new, msrp $42k and $44k, I paid $30k both times. My current truck I got a few months ago a 15 F150 supercab Lariat (502A, loaded) FX4 with 35k miles, msrp $53k for $27.5. I had to travel 200mi but this truck would have been $36k+ locally. Keep digging you’ll find someone that wants to move inventory.

If you’re not in a huge hurry wait it out till the end of the month. I bet at least one salesman will call you back. It’s summer, which can be like the holidays. A lot of families are traveling. Which means they will be spending thousands on vacations, and dealer traffic will be down. Not to mention auto sales are already in a decline. Someone will be wanting to hit their numbers.
