Kinja'd!!!

The Stan Hywet 60th Annual Fathers Day car show on June 18th. Then a good euro show in late July in Cleveland complete with a biergarten. Thought I’d post these early this year so people can include them in their plans. Both have some entry fees. The food is great at both but completely different. More of a fair food type at Stan Hywet with burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, beer and wine available. The Euro Cruise-in is at a German-American club so expect typical beers and brats.

My posts from last year are kinja’d and links aren’t always showing. You may have to search my old posts to see what they were like.

Then there is The 6th Annual Cleveland Euro Car Cruise-In at the Donauschwaben on July 30th.

Hey Dave, I reached out to EBC Brakes to ask about my van because I’d seen EBC on some episodes of Roadkill where they were a sponsor. They say they have a setup for 72-93 G10 van. How likely would that be to work on my ‘71?

From what I can tell rotors were same from 71-74 and knuckles were same too if it has disc brakes. As long as you have disc setup in front you should be good.

Can you tell me what years of power steering gearboxes would interchange with my van? Even scare up a part number, perhaps?

I thought I had one, but the supplier didn’t have any cores. There are some on eBay, but I’m worried about quality. Rock Auto only goes back to 1995. This is more challenging and costly than I’d imagined it would be...

Delco #19321363 , its listed under 1971 G10. Rock Auto has listings way back not sure how you were limited at 1995.

Thanks, Dave. There’s definitely a breakfast somewhere in your future and I pick up the reckoning...

Good morning Dave, with that part number, I found a gearbox in about 90 seconds. My van is funky enough that it’s hard to find sometimes in the aftermarket vehicle listings. But with the GM part number, it’s an entirely different story.

Found one at Summit Racing and a good deal cheaper than the stuff on Ebay and also free shipping.

Can you tell me the same about Driver and Passenger door window regulators?

GM manual regulators from your year have been gone for years. You can fit early to mid 80's power ones to it but might take some measuring attaching points and maybe trial and error. I’d keep the old manual windows if I was you. Seems like more of a pain than its worth. Rock has power ones listed by Dorman and Delco in 1982 G10 interior section.

Interesting. Mine are completely shot or, at least, they’ve come completely unmounted inside the doors. I’ll look. Thanks for the help.

I am Kinja’d to find it, but a month or two ago, you gave me a recommendation on how to find door trim rubber. Was it Rock Auto?

This was the post:

“Look at Rock Auto under the universal parts at top of page. Go to body parts and then weatherstrips. You can even but 1 foot pieces as a sample. You will need to compare the contour of the extrusions or pick something other that stock profile that will work. There is also Soffseal.com to go to but they will be a bit pricier and they only have universal stuff for year too. Both Rockauto and Soffseal have window glass rubber that should work too. I’m off this week but next week I’ll try to remember to look up the old GM part. I think they ran up to 90's vans but you would still need to cut and glue if I recall, plus much more $$$.”

The old GM original style was #3961043 for the glued on seals but those changed in about 1973-74 to the peg retained. They are all discontinued.

I better be since I’ve done this forever. I did the Detroit Diesel parts orders when working offshore. Not sure why but numbers for anything have always been easy for me. Doesn’t matter if fishing tackle, oilfield equipment or car parts.

That, too. I was talking about the Kinja piece, but your mastery of the parts biz is apparent.

My first computer class was in 1973. Took Fortran and Basic back in the day. I’m not the best with computers but can limp my way through a lot of stuff. Had computer assisted statistics in 1976 that were run through the central IBM systems in Raleigh NC Research Triangle, those were crazy times, had so many notes for commands. Back in the day trying to surfing web, finding chatrooms and regular searching for info was always a challenge. My 1st PC was in 1993, can’t recall specs but remember its what I started my daughter on when she was 6 (1995). I must have done well because this weekend she wiped the drive on her Macbook Pro and reinstalled the OS. She had a rare virus for an Apple machine and the Apple store couldn’t fix it easily. She backed up copies of music and most files to a portable hard drive before restoring the laptop. Its 5 years old now and she says now with an updated operating system and all the crap gone it runs nearly like new.

I did FORTRAN, Basic and C++ in the early 90s. And some Visual Basic for Applications hackery later on. I have little use for Apple computers, but two of my daughters have them and I am thus forced to provide support.

It’s good, Bro. Thanks again for all the help.

Tried to read a book on C++ , it made my head spin. I did figure out a few things about doing a web design but stopped there.

Here’s a good question: would the Pitman arm the same between the PS and non-PS vans? (Seems to me it would be...)

I get a lot of the work done on my project this way... ;o)

Were not the same. OE GM for 73-78 G van power steering was #14002553 (now disc) but Delco makes a knockoff in cheaper line #88911189.

So if I fit a pwr steering gearbox, I’ll need the 88911189 arm?

Yes or the equivalent if you use a mid 70s power steering gear.

I used the Delco #19321363 number you gave me earlier for the gearbox. Summit has the 88911189 Pitman arm. I got the brackets from Ebay and my Parts Dude is ordering me the pump and the hoses. And I got a nice steering wheel...
