I live in a sixty year-old house in the middle of the Sonoran Desert that I purchasd from the original owner. She used to write my wife and I letters telling stories about her and her husband living in the house which was cool. My wife birthed our children within these walls and one of my best (non human) friends is buried here. We’ve thought about selling as the value has about doubled since we bought it but I don’t know if I can bring myself to do it. Lotta life within these brick walls.

I live in a piece of shit condo that I paid almost half a million for. The fucking shower drain clogs and I just got done spray painting the refrigerator because I refuse to dump another 2k into the money pit. On the plus side, it’s gained 80k in value since I bought the miserable thing. I guarantee though that 80k won’t pay for all the four letter words I’ve cursed it with.

McMansions have their place. I currently live in an oddly shaped house that’s an odd color and I’d appreciate some conformity... but just a little bit. I have beautiful views and an acre for my pups to run around on and this house belonged to my dear mom so there’s that.

I like it. I love my house but less so my neighborhood...I wish I could live somewhere with more considerate neighbors who are also a little bit farther away. (For example, a guy in the house behind me prefers to argue with his girlfriend on speakerphone in the backyard, for privacy’s sake. So his housemates don’t know the drama but everyone else within half a block does...)

I’d set up a perimeter of small frogs, with an inner defense line of Gardner snakes for the real tough ones. Sparrows on patrol, hawks on long-range scouting and explosive charges set up around the construction site as a last ditch effort in case of impending arachnid contamination.

I’m Colorado, we’re thankfully missing the worst of the critters. I get cats (also) and flies if I leave the door open. I’ve just spent my career looking at the worst of the worst in housing and things that are nasty spread quickly. Probably spider infestations too!
