This morning started with things looking like this:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

The fabricator nailed it. The top works perfectly, and the bolt holes to hold down one set of reinforcements line up perfectly. A couple steel plates need to go into place so some fiberglass needs to be cut to access to the frame but it’s minimal.

I pick it back up from the welder next weekend.

It’ll run its first track day with the mismatched tires from the previous owner as why not — they’re performance summer with plenty of tread. Good to enough to get to know the car a bit anyway.

I picked up a set of arm restraints too so I don’t rip my arms off with them flinging around in an accident. I don’t think it’s in the rules with most places but I think a convertible needs arm restraints, gloves, and a full face helmet at a minimum as, say, getting a face full of sand when someone slides off the track in front of you means you’re joining them for sure.

Nice! Good call on the arm restraints.

I was looking at Corvettes on Craigslist the other day thanks to you. And my coworker, who is the king of terrible ideas.

This thing is no terrible idea. I kinda disliked the car when I bought it while thinking more about the overall goal. However it’s growing on me. It’s reliable as rain and to date cheap as in zero dollars aside from what I’m spending on upgrades.

You feel a bit like a coke dealer while sitting at red lights, so there’s that, but kids yell out “rad car!” and people let you in when you signal to get a closer look at the car which is fucking handy. People assume it’s expensive. I’m a bit, uh, well the M5 is fucking brutal, so I’m not the best source — but the Corvette, a 1992, needs nothing but gas. It’s been free to own so far.

I’ve always liked Corvettes. There’s a Reidus & Cletus quality C3 for sale that I spent a lot of time pondering but in reality I have too many projects and too little money already. It’s been nearly a month and the Fiat still doesn’t have a rear window, so your progress towards a track car is pretty impressive.

The bad ideas were the engine-swapped Previa, the lifted Eagle, the mid-project Merkur, what else...there’s an entire email chain from one bored Friday that could be labeled The Worst of Denver Craigslist.
