Looks like the Golden Princess or one of her sister ships.

I think that’s the Grand Princess. Not even close to the biggest now I think. Oasis is a damn city.

My wife wants to take a cruise, but I’ll be damned if I’ll go to sea with that many other humans.

Yeah, cruise ships are very, very low on my list of things to do.

I can say from experience that you are probably missing out.

Though cruises aren’t for everyone, there are many different styles. From this giant ship down to Empress of the Seas with only a couple thousand people.

I see this one out of my office window when it docks in Bayonne, NJ. It makes the Statue of Liberty (300' tall with the pedestal) look like a paperweight in sheer size. It’s shorter (obviously) but the things is gigantic.

Meanwhile, Oasis is larger.

I love ships and boats, I just don’t like being trapped, and I hate crowds of any kind. I like the idea of an old school ocean liner, but those aren’t a thing anymore

I work on shows but sometimes we are called to do other promotional stuff. I had to go on a ship in SF to build a Johnny Walker display and they needed people with passports to get on the ship. I knew from that job that I didn’t want to go on a cruise... Although I regret not trying to get a summer job in college on them because girls from like twenty countries work on them and party in the bar when the people are all gone.

I’ve done about a dozen and I don’t think me or anyone I’ve ever know has caught something. Sure its a diverse group but they are on top of sanitation and take it pretty seriously.

Yeah, they still look too cruise ship-y to me. The bridge design, and black and red hull really helps, but it’s still shaped like a cruise ship. This is what I want

Well you can still have that level as luxury as long as you’ve got your tetanus booster and aren’t worried about a trespassing charge:

Of the Cunard ships, the Queen Mary 2 is more like traditional liners. The QE2 is no longer in service but is also still hanging around.

Few other more ocean linery things around as well. SS Rotterdam is now a hotel:

As is the Queen Mary:

Astoria looks somewhere between a modern cruise ship and a modern ferry, but was originally the transatlantic liner Stockholm (famously, the “other ship” in the Andrea Doria collision:

Macro Polo is an East German built liner still in service:

There may be some others. I saw a reference to the Saga Ruby, but looks like it finished up in 2014, and went to the ship breakers in India this March:

If I could have one of those state rooms with a view of the water, I’d be curious, but when you have 6,000 passengers on board and maybe 200 deck chairs, it just sounds like a sardine can to me. But zillions of folks cruise and more power to ‘em.

As you know im not a crowds and people person at all. My ideall vacation is being in someplace 50 miles away from anyone and anything...but i love cruising. Dont let the numbers fool you they are BIG ships and there is always somewhere to seek refuge. The only time you feel the crowds is getting on and off at ports and lunch. Other than that it doesnt feel in the least bit crowded, and i never had trouble getting a deck chair if i want one.

Yes, and your earlier comment surprised me for that reason.

I can’t see myself going on a cruise.
