If you are in this hobby like I am there are certain cars you hope will pass in front of your camera. The Subaru WRX STi is definitely one of those cars. I reviewed a 2002 bugeye and a 2015 wrx but while I had lines out on STi’s from various vintages it never came to be. Until I met Simon as he pulled out of the local Cars and Coffee while he still had paper plates. We chatted for a few seconds as there were people lined up behind him and traffic was about to clear. But those few seconds were enough to go from “hey, I watch your videos” to “let’s do a review”

We hashed out the details over social media and the review was set a few weeks later. And it was such a nice car to drive... and the sound? Check it out for yourself!

Sure you can brake late and accelerate early, but STis still push and if you can avoid that you can get snap oversteer at the limit. The best thing about the STi it communicates with you before it throws you off the road....but AWD won’t save you at the apex. The limited slips really shine in the snow!

This.

So many people misunderstand the nature of AWD. Granted, none of those people have had the chance to track a decent AWD car.

Hence “You got to be doing something really stupid”. I never reach those limits in any car. A: not my car and B: public street. If you slide in a corner you fail. Not that I haven’t gotten a little squirly on exit or in a straight line, but nothing track worthy. I know my limits, and do not wish to test them. I also don’t want to be that guy wrecking a car that is not his own. I love this hobby, and I hope to continue to do it for a long time.

AWD cars brake just as good as a front or rear wheel drive car with comparible brakes. It also aquaplains just as good with comparible tires and thread depth. I love how people just haul ass in adverse conditions in AWD cars. You’ll go off the road just as easy if you don’t watch it.

True, though AWD cars typically have more weight out front. The less than desirable weight distribution can have a negative impact on braking.

Then you might want to add some of that to your review, because you basically told everyone the STi’s AWD system will save your ass....and it won’t It will do something other cars can’t and at the limit if you don’t know what to expect it will toss you right off the tarmac. Take one autocorssing you’ll see.

AWD is better then Font wheel drive because of on throttle oversteer (you can steer with the throttle). It’s better then RWD because it can get out of my drive way in the winter. Also the DCCD is the best awd feature of the STi and you left it out.....though I guess with out snow the settings are kinda hard to demo. STi is one of the only if not the only car with limited slips and rear with a electric locker in the middle.

Guess that depends on your point of view and how you take which was said.

My reviews are not about listing each and every feature like saabkyle or subaruwrx fan. It is my opinion and feel. Besides, people that go look for reviews usually know far more about the features than I do. Because they are obsessing about the car. Features do make it in obviously, and in the EVO review I did bring up various mode settings. It depends on my flow. I should have included it. But hindsight is 20/20. There is a reason why I am at 4.3K subscribers and not 100K. I don’t excel at these things and I accept that.

I didn’t mean to be to critical, just see so many STi’s driven off the road by people who think AWD will save them. There’s definitely an advantage but it also has it’s quarks. I think your reviews are good keep going you’ll get more viewers every time.

The only way one can grow is trough critique, so it is appreciated! Thanks for the props, I will continue to do car reviews. It is a great hobby, and I have met some awesome people through it!
