I spent a bit of time with the 1988 Subaru Leone

Damn, this thing is super nice! It’s not fast indeed but as you can see in the video, it can still move... Not particularly slow in anyway. I think most of the bad rep it got was due to having that same engine coupled with a 3-speed auto instead of the 5-speed manual.

But yeah, it really looks AND sounds good :)

I kind of like it haha. If anyone on Oppo wants it, it’s for sale, $3500 shipping to any Ro-Ro port you want included. For something this old and this clean, I think it’s a fair deal...

I live in Pensacola (west Florida panhandle, practically in Alabama) what would be the logistics of shipping for me?

For a car to be shipped to you, it would either have to be shipped to Jacksonville, FL or Savannah, GA. I have never shipped cars to Jacksonville, but I have shipped a few to Savannah... I could certainly recommend a broker there. To get it fully ready for registration, it will cost you about 500 to 600$ extra in taxes, port fees, broker fees and paperwork. You can do it all by yourself and save yourself 2-300$ on that amount by not going through a broker, but for a first time important, I don’t recommend it. Then either you uHaul it back from Savannah to Pensacola or if you get all the paperwork fully ready before picking it up, you can just go to the port with the Florida plates you got at the DMV and drive the car back home from the port... A few of my customers do it that way... And well, that’s pretty much it :)

Importing a car into the US is really not that complicated. First time is always a bit of a stress, once you’ve done it, you realize it’s really easy.

All the paperwork needed for the importation is shipped to you from Japan by me via FedEx Express. you have plenty of time to get everything ready before the cars actually arrives. To Florida, expect 25 days of trip for the car to arrive + an extra 10 days for all the exportation paperwork to be done on our side.

Thank you for the very well worded explanation! Is there a better way to contact you outside of Oppo? I’m currently in the process of deciding whether or not I’m going to sell my 2017 Elantra because I no longer *need* a car. This seems like it would be a great occasional use vehicle and I’d be able to give you an answer as to whether I’m a definite buyer in a couple days, assuming it doesn’t sell in the mean time.

Sure man, contact me via email: my name with a point in between my first and last name at gmail.com.

It’s a really neat car for what I think is a cheap price... Niche market for sure, but when I saw it, I had to buy it haha. Just too beautiful to pass on it. This is a car that just doesn’t exist anymore in such condition today :)

Awesome, thank you, I’ll be in touch. I agree, I love quirky and different and this feels like a time capsule. The more of the video I watch the more I’m falling for it haha.

Haha, as I said in the video, people either love or hate this kind of car. Not much in between :)

I wished the car had more options, but I also believe it’s as good as I’m ever going to find one. You wouldn’t regret it for sure :)

It is! I had no idea if a car like this would generate any interest, but Vimto is the second person interested in it which is kind of surprising as the best cars I get don’t receive that much attention this fast usually haha

keep making them!

Haha, thank you :)

Have to do this kind of videos for potential customers... Selling cars from the other side of the world to people who won’t get to see it in person until it reaches them isn’t easy, so it requires 4 or 5 times more details than normal.

Thank you though, glad you enjoy them!

Very cool video Flavien! Reminds me of the type of cars I like...I’m a weird one these days as I actually prefer my cars with no options (though I require airbags!). Only option I really miss sometimes is power mirrors when parking in tight places on occasion - I don’t even mind if my car doesn’t have A/C!

Are basic cars like this generally a lot cheaper at the auctions? I would imagine so...?

I’ve got a thing for small hatchbacks and kei cars, so one of those with nothing but a manual trans and airbags would be perfectly fine with me! :P

Now I am looking around on Goonet for fun...thanks a lot... :D

Meh, airbags are overated and are “usually” not included in 2 cylinder Fiat or eastern block cars haha :)

This specific car was cheap, which is why I can offer it at such a price. Lots of fees are added to final auction prices, but overall, yeah I got a good deal.

If you want a keicar or a small hatch, I can certainly help, but you’d have to go get it in Halifax :)

Oh, I know Eastern Bloc cars or the FIAT 126I want wouldn’t have airbags, but they would be weekend warriors :P

I was contemplating a Kei or other small ride as a DD at some point whenever I eventually replace the Accent! Luckily, Halifax is only 50 minutes from me on the highway! Not that Keis are safe...but they are MORE safe with air bags at least!

Sometime down the line if I were to get a Kei, it would be a basic one (with airbags! :P) but I wouldn’t care about other options. I know there are quite a few keis that had standard transmission versions with part-time 4WD....that would be great here for the wintertime! Suzuki Wagon Rs....Daihatsu Miras.....various Mitsus all come to mind...

Since you’re only allowed 2002 and before year models, I’m not even sure keicars had airbags yet then lol. And all the good keis were in the 80's and 90's... The Honda Beat had an optional airbag if I recall... Sold one that had one.

EDIT: Cappus had optional ones too!

From looking around on Goonet, etc, a lot after 1998 seemed to have at least a driver’s airbag - not all though!

Very Nice. I had a three door Turbo 4WD 1986 back in the day. I loved driving that car. It had all of the bells and whistles except the automatic height adjusters and auto trans. People didn’t know what to make of a turbo Subaru in the late 80's.

Hey, just wondering if you were still interested? Before I start spending time spamming it everywhere, if I can avoid doing that, I’d rather ask if you still want to take it haha

Cheers!

Hey there, unfortunately I found out that my current car was damaged without being disclosed to me (bought it new) so it’s tanked in value and I can’t sell it. That Leone is awesome though, hope it goes to a good home.

Wouch, that sucks man! Where are the damages? Any hope you can go after the dealer?

The Leone will probably go on BaT I’m a couple weeks of I don’t sell it by then, so it should find a good home :)

The hood was damaged, removed and repainted. The dealer I bought it from denies they did so, but also said it “shouldn’t effect the value even if it is”. I took it to a body shop for another opinion and he immediately confirmed it had been redone.
