You can’t prove to me Canada exists.

It exists, it exists in two forms, one the Euro VW Passat the other the NMS (North American) Passat.

In the U.K. We only get the Passat in diesel form while in the E.U. The Passat is available with all the same engines as the Skoda Superb both petrol and diesel.

We don’t need VWs ruddy petrol Passats anyway, the Superb looks much better.

Don’t you Piglet!?

Nope. I drive a 2015 Passat TSI, hence the question.

Meanwhile, here’s the US engine lineup:

2012-2013:

2.5 I5, port injected, 170 hp, with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed Aisin automatic (this was probably the most Americanized engine in the lineup, but it got mediocre fuel efficiency (Fuelly numbers are in the 24-26 miles per US gallon range), and reviewers panned it)

2.0 TDI, 140 hp (what’s referred to as the “Gen 2" engine in Dieselgate documents), with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DSG

3.6 VR6, direct injection (of premium, because, you know, that makes sense in a Beigekrieg product), 280 hp, with a 6-speed DSG

2014: Same as before, but mid-year, the 2.5 got replaced with:

1.8T, direct injected, 170 hp, same transmissions as the 2.5 (this did get better efficiency - in the 29 to 30 miles per US gallon range on Fuelly, although there may be some European-spec cars mixed in)

2015: Same as before, but the TDI was 150 hp (and was the Gen 3 engine)

2016-2017: No more TDIs or manuals

Yet, in the Netherlands, currently: 1.4 tsi 125, 1.4 tsi 150, 1.4 tsi plugin hybrid, 1.8 tsi, 2.0 tsi, 1.6 TDI 120, 2.0 TDI 150, 2.0 TDI 190, 2.0 TDI biturbo 240. Most available with a manual. Wagon and sedan, with the wagon very easily outselling the sedan. The fastest gas and diesel versions have standard AWD.

where as we get the 1.6TDi (120 and 150ps), 2.0TDi (150 and 190ps) and the 2.0Bi trubo TDi (240ps).

They now offer a 1.4TSi 218ps PHEV for the GTE.

The Passat CC comes with a 1.4TSi (150ps) though.

Weird you guys are still that focused on diesel. Is there no backlash from actual diesel polution and an indirect effect from the emissions fraud?

It’s just what VW are giving us.

There is talk of several cities putting up charges for diesels to enter or banning them or certain types but nothing much really. The government isn’t forcing people to fix them as it’s not the owners fault but the manufacturers and if people feel they will get less economy or power from having the fix then it’s up to them whether they choose to have it done.
