They tell us that’s the new hotness and essential moving forward. I know some people are making their whole living of it now, but it doesn’t seem to really be helping.

Our Mercedes dealer across the automall does white glove service for delivery...

I work at Buick GMC so we do NOT do white glove service at delivery. We do however have a nice glass box next to the showroom we drive it into.

The thing about it is you can’t irrefutably deny or confirm it helps. The only measures you can track on it are reach, engagement and conversions. Anything else would be only available to those who actually work at said social media companies. The reporting is limited to specific posts and you cannot actually tie a single purchase to it unless it is a direct referral onto the page and then you can MAYBE try and create a funnel that shows the crowd of people who landed on your site and proceeded to purchase. Problem is, rarely do people do that. They’re on forums and texting people to ask about recommendations so you can’t even account for that.

Then there’s the other side who will vehemently argue that social media marketing is only one component of the customer experience. They will argue until they’re blue in the face and pull out all the buzzwords you know and teach you ten more you didn’t even know existed to argue that it works. They’ll even cite heavily biased studies from consulting firms and “market research” (which is still sponsored by those who have a vested interest in Social Media Marketing being successful.

Either way, pick a side, there’ll be people who agree with you and people who don’t.
