Kinja'd!!!

The fact they sacrificed the legs of the person in the middle isn’t the worst bit, because it’s not terribly likely someone will be sitting there anyway—but I still don’t see why they couldn’t have put them on the doors. THERE ARE NO DOOR POCKETS AT ALL. Lots of space for cupholders. Not is the fact that it can barely hold bottles upright. No, the worst part is that it comes unhooked and slides out really easily. It’s not build quality, it’s a feature. Seriously. There’s a nice ergonomic release underneath. I have no explanation as to why. Upshot is, it can go AWOL with little to no provocation.

At least it makes a half-decent garbage holder...

Well, the dude in the middle has to press his knees so hard into his chest, his legs will clear the drinks. So maybe its ingenious.

There’s more space than there looks like back there. Not much, but there is... still needs about 3" more though. Just enough to allow the seats to lay back a little. They’re almost vertical.

TBH though, if I was in the middle, there’s a good chance I’d have my legs straight out, feet up on the console.

I’ve sentenced worse backseat cupholders, like the early 2000s Passat, it’s part of the fold down arm rest, and the is maybe 1/2” deep and that’s being generous. It reminds me of those “cup holders” you’d get on when you opened the glove box on old trucks.

Of course you have. I for one nominate those in the 2000's Grand Caravan. Not just the rear-seat ones either—ALL of them. They were all too shallow, too wide, or too flimsy.

But these still suck.

Cup holders in the doors are the worst place to put cup holder ever. Picture a nearly full can of pop in that door pocket (and don’t say I’ll never let that in my truck, some people do, things happen etc.) now imagine someone shutting your door with that nearly full can of pop in it. Do you know where that pop goes? Everywhere, especially if they close the door hard.

True enough. But in a vehicle where interior space is already at a premium, they should at least BE there. They work great for anything in a bottle. And while door holders aren’t good when you’re getting in or out, they hold things steadier than these holders while you’re on the move. So... I dunno. Got me either way.

I’ve always preferred the deep cup holders built into the rear of the center council, with plain door pockets for things like bottles, that way no one is tempted to put an open can in the door.

Not enough room there in this case.
