I’m pleasantly surprised. I thought it would’ve been parted out by now for the Recaros and 5 speed by someone with a 2002. Oh yeah, “some rust” means one of the frame rails has a big hole in it, and the rear shock towers have a fair amount of bubbling. Also the rockers have some rust. And yet, I find myself wanting it back. Have to remind myself how much it needed all of the suspension replaced, like all of it, and tires. And the rust. And the constant loud ticking that can only be solved by a new cam. Also it needs a fuel distributor.....

I recently had a dream about my old E21, the beige on beige Luxus model. In the dream it was unreliable and disintegrating but I couldn’t bear to part with it. In reality it was quite reliable; that motor stood up to months if not years of overheating because, as a stupid college student, I didn’t bother to change the coolant. It ran well even with a cracked block until one day it didn’t. There’s a good reason why the M10 was used for BMW’s turbo F1 engine.

I never quite figured out why the edges of the trunk rusted away to nothingness in the dryness that was Southern California. Other than that it was structurally sound, and with some Bilstein Sports and lowering springs it cornered like it was on rails, although being a 101HP M10-powered version it didn’t do it all that quickly.

I kinda wish I didn’t sell it, but I wasn’t using it and was too busy starting my company to go autocrossing as planned. A friend got it from me for $550, a total steal since I had over $1,000 in the suspension and wheels and tires. Being his typical hot-headed self he destroyed the Bilsteins when removing them (as an A&P mechanic you’d think he’d know better than to grab the chrome rod of the struts with pliers) and I never did forgive him for that. He had no idea how expensive those were, and made them worthless in an instant. He never liked my sheepskin seat covers either, until he saw the price. Oh, and being an asshole on the road, not surprisingly he destroyed the car. Fucker.

Someday I’ll have another E21, although I think I’d like one with a six, even though that means an M20 which in my mind is a stupid design for being an interference engine with a timing belt. Yeah, the one in my E34 has 300,000 miles without incident, but still...

That’s very orange. I need it. I’ll over build the rusty parts, and hoon it on dirt roads as was intended

I have the same feelings about the M20. I love them in E30s, and would love one in an E21, but the use of a timing belt is really strange.

That’s too bad about your e21, it sucks when cars meet ends that way. I was hoping I found a good owner for mine, but I don’t blame them for giving up on it, it needs a lot.

If that was on my local craigslist I wouldn’t be able to resist.

Even though I know very well that it needs like $2500 thrown at it before it would be decent to drive, the main thing stopping me is a lack of space
