I was asking a friend of mine who regularly drives an older model S and he claims the fit and finish are very good on that car. Comparable to his G37.

I’ve been in a lot of G37's. Fit and finish is not exactly what I would call world-class. So if that’s his benchmark, then, yeah, the Model S is fine. I don’t think it is all that bad, really. It’s certainly on par with Buick, Lincoln, and the 3-Series, which is to say it’s a cut above you’re standard mainstream car. From my perspective that makes it a pretty good deal - the Model S reminds me a lot of a Corvette. Your trading fit and finish for getting absurd performance for the money. But I think a lot of people would rather trade 50 miles less range and 0.5 seconds slower to 60 for better materials and smaller panel gaps at this price.
