How’s this for a garage? Or should I say garages, plural. As in, room for 15 cars. Fif. Teen.

I saw this on Flat Sixes last week, and was just as impressed with the house as I was with the cars (Porsche content below). It turns out the house is for sale!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This is the freestanding garage....room for eight cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

But it turns out the main house has an additional double-depth three car garage, in addition to the original carriage-house garage.

Kinja'd!!!

How’s that for a floor plan of your ground level?

Kinja'd!!!

For more on the house, check out Sothebys...

Also, friendly reminder that the PowerBall lottery is over $300 million. All you need is (two) dollars and a dream garage!

This looks absolutely awesome. I only have one wish for this garage - a lift. How you gonna have a yuge garage like that without a lift?

I feel like 15 cars is just too many to own. They wouldnt get driven enough. Its a shame to own a car and not drive it. I just couldn’t imagine the point of more than 6 or 7 cars, even in the most fantasy future.

A somewhat practical daily car, a super impractical daily car, a super rare car just for special occasions, a street legal race car, a fully race prepped non-street car, and a tow vehicle. I could see another couple cars just for shits and giggles, to try other things or other race series or something. But anything more than that becomes way too crazy no matter how much money I had.

I feel like this person is in the income range where cars are actually viable investments. He’s making money just keeping these guys inside.

While I do agree they should be driven it’s important to keep some examples of cars pristine for the next generation.

Tuxedo Park is ridiculously fancy - a gated community. Fun fact, the tuxedo piece of clothing was named after Tuxedo Park, not the other way around. Beautiful area too with some fantastic driving roads.

I’m with you.

Were it me buying that house, one of those garage spaces would become a wood shop. Probably the 6-car garage. And as I have all the money ever because I’m buying a house in NY with space for 15 cars, I would outfit that wood shop with all the Norm Abrams tools because I can. Then I would most likely do nothing with it, because I’m an idiot who likes to pretend he knows what he’s doing in a wood shop.

I actually love the layout of that house, and the fact that there are a lot of original bits throughout. It’s obviously big, but not ludicrous. This is much closer to a dream house of mine than any gigantic 6,000sf McMansion. Not to mention, literally the perfect garage situation.

For 2+MM I don’t want to get gravel and mud/dirt on my tires. Otherwise, pretty cool, it’d be more in Seattle.

“$2,150,000 AMERICAN DOLLAR”

That gives me an idea. Surinam is also a country in America and their currency is Surinamese dollar. With exchange rate of 1USD=4SRD you could get 75% off from the price by paying in SRD

This should work?

Based on the cars he owns, and some of the previous cars he has auctioned off, I am going to guess that the only thing he needs to lift is the phone off the hook to call his mechanic. (the again, there could be two hidden lifts somewhere in that garage!)

Some collectors prefer to have their collections close by. I would also venture to guess that some of the cars previously auctioned off may have helped pay for the garage. So, it may be similar to someone having a large home office or a vault built into their new home. I agree with you, but if I had $100 million, I’d buy this house and 15 cars and I would then disagree with you.

Yeah....not sure what the taxes and association fees are, but I was surprised it wasn’t priced much higher.

Cars are such terrible investments though lol. Even getting a postive return is rare but any useful rate would be far outclassed by any other investment opportunity.

Yeah I suppose its a matter of perspective. I dont ever plan on having $100 million of disposable income and if I did, I would spend it more on real estate and traveling. But yeah I could picture getting to the point of FU money and changing my mind about that.

Hey, I wrote the piece on Flatsixes, and toured and photographed the house and cars. The owner was a SUPER nice guy, and very gracious with his time to let me spend the afternoon snooping around his car collection.

15 is the APPROXIMATE total in terms of garage space. There is additional space beneath the detached garage that I did not go in to. It’s not attached to the main driveway, but it could hold more cars if desired. The owner of the property really liked Lotuses, and you could fit 1.5 Lotuses in each space meant for a normal sized car. This could push the theoretical total closer to 20 if you have a handful of Lotuses.

For perspective, the rear row in the detached garage is three bays wide. There were FIVE Lotuses in that space. In the main garage under the house there were a further four with space to walk around them, but only in a 3-car wide space.

Great piece and great pics. It looks to be one of the more tasteful 15+ capacity garages I’ve ever seen. From the Sotheby’s listing you can tell they really went to great lengths to keep the 100+ year old carriage house details. He seems to have the same attention to detail with cars based on my limited research of some he’s restored. Good stuff, bummer he is selling it...hopefully it goes to a new owner that can put it to similarly good use. It should be noted in the listing that the house is about an hour from Monticello Motor Club, where any said cars can be driven properly!
