Kinja'd!!!

Scooter weather is finally really here. I haven’t had a chance to ride it since I got it ready for the season nearly two months ago. Today I took it on a small grocery store again. It felt good to get back on this silly thing again.

On the way home from work I was wishing I had my bike. But work tools and stuff.

Yay! Super 8! I wish they were more common here so I could pick one up....don’t know of any dealers in the province though. There is one, but they sell Kymco’s off-road stuff...ATVs, side-by-sides, etc...

Yeah, they aren’t much good for hauling tools. Luckily the grocery run was small, so I could make it work.

If you find one, you really don’t need a dealer. They’re really easy to work on (so far at least).

I have some digital copies of the Repair/User manuals for them, plus a wiring diagram or two if you ever wanted them? I should be set if I can ever find one :P

I think they are for the Euro 125cc version, not the 150cc, but everything should be almost exactly the same!

I downloaded and printed the manual. I’ll let you know if I ever need a wiring diagram :)

How is it on the hills? I might consider getting back up on 2 wheels again if it’s light enough. I can’t risk my leg giving out again and having a hot &  heavy bike trap it underneath.

Couldn’t tell you how it does on hills, there’s nothing even resembling a hill near my house. I suspect if you’re a normal sized person it’d do fine. I weigh a bit over 350, and it’ll top out at 52 mph hour on flatland for me. 0-30 acceleration is quite good for me too.

The scooter weighs about 265 pounds with a full tank of gas. Not light by any means, but a lot lighter than an actual motorcycle.

Thanks. My last Honda weighed 486 (from memory) and it was only a 400. I guess a road test would be the most helpful. I really want a Can Am Spyder, but that would cost the same as the first year of classes towards my MA.

You can’t beat a scooter for a cheap way on two wheels. I only paid a grand for it, in like new condition with 4K miles on it. Another one came up for sale this winter, newer with less miles, for $800. I should’ve bought it.

Well, we have a lot of hills here in the Hudson Valley, so I’d need something that can get up and go when I come to a steep hill, like where I live. We can be having snow up here and it’s raining or doing nothing down at the bottom.
But, it’s summer, time for test drives.

Yeah, you’ll have to do some test rides then. They do make some 250 cc scooters as well. Literally the steepest hill for miles around here is an overpass over some train tracks. There’s a little river valley maybe 15-20 miles south that has some actual hills, but I just use the scooter to putter around town.

I’d want one for the same purpose. It’s nuts for me to drive to the library when it’s within walking distance, but the hills! The steepest one from up here down to the library is one they wouldn’t be allowed to make nowadays. I always feel sorry for the folks who live on that road when it snows.

I imagine I’d feel the same way. Definitely do some test rides. I noticed last year that prices for scooters plummeted around November, because all the people who want to get rid of them before they have to store it for the winter. By the end of December there were almost no scooters for sale, and prices actually went back up.

I’m in no hurry, if I get back up on 2 wheels, it will be after long and careful thought and consideration, including the opinions of my doctors.
Even if I have to wait for the off season for sales, although, around here, people are used to storing things for the winter.

I was talking about private sellers. I only went to a couple dealers, and they wouldn’t budge on their prices or let anybody test ride anything. People are used to storing things for the winter here too, but those who have decided they’re done with the scooter were extra motivated to sell before winter set-in for real.

Gotcha...Around here, the dealers almost have to give test rides, or lose the sale to the next dealer. After they make a copy of your MC endorsed license, of course. No bike license, no ride.
I’d go for test rides to narrow down the field, but try to buy from a private seller for a better price.

Makes sense.
