You haven’t watched Best Motoring International, or whatever other names it goes by. Basically its a Japanese car show hosted by a crop of extremely experienced Touge drivers.
“Some of the regular hosts/drivers included the “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya , Manabu Orido , Juichi Wakisaka , Akihiko Nakaya , and Naoki Hattori .”
It is also special in that during driving segments they usually show camera views of the drivers footwork as well as regular camera views, and allow you to hear the actual cars rather than mostly commentary.
You may be concerned, as the show is in strictly japanese. This is not a problem however as there is not much content that requires language. You mostly just watch them drive tuned care extremely skillfully in various challenges and comparisons. Basically, its the shit.
Heres a short clip of a supercar battle they did, one of the more stock and more expensive car tests theyve had.

And in terms of full episodes, my favorite is Fuji Fast, where Tsuchiya San breaks his old touring car record in a recreated version of his old touring NSX. He ends up beating the record on one of his warmup laps, and ends up destroying it by a couple seconds.

If you are just now getting hip to this, there are literally endless episodes on youtube and it is so entertaining if you like just pure driving and sound rather than a pseudo car comedy reality tv show.

I remember spending WEEKS downloading Best Motoring clips off Limewire circa 2004/2005 and watching guys like Tsuchiya race door-to-door with all the forbidden JDM fruit. AE86 Levins! Skylines! NSXs! Type-Rs of every variety! Everything all shiny and new just past the break-in mileage. When DSL came knocking a year later, it was mind-blowing how I could watch that shit on YouTube without waiting...still does, even in 2017.
Raphael Orlove once aptly summed it up as “Gran Turismo in real life”. Damn right it is! I spent hours recreating Best Motoring battles on Tsukuba and Fuji in Gran Turismo 4. The footwork cam was my first experience with heel-toe and I visualize the little screen with the driver’s feet every time I heel-toe in my car.
YouTube user Miroshi has some kick-ass Honda Type-R content. He’s my favorite.

There was so much tuned japanese content but what was really special was once they had a big budget and they did stock supercar shootouts on big name circuits with many skiled drivers. And they dont hold back either. So much fun to watch, especially when you are familiar with the drivers and are rooting for one of them.

Yeah I know about that show/series. As long as it has sub titles and stuff Im good. I mean whats the point of seeing a customized RX-7 fly down the road if you couldn’t understand what the guy said was modified? :>
(I like the commentary from some of the japanese drivers since they like to be very descriptive where other shows have too much filter)

Yeah when I watch the show I learn SO much about tuning just because they are all so knowledgeable and are great drivers. Its because of this show that I question why EVERY fwd car doesnt have a mechanical LSD. If you hear them review tuners cars every single one without an LSD is rated poorly in handling and power delivery and tsuchiya will just be like “needs an LSD”

Sadly yes, but in terms of mods that are really worth the money, an LSD is up there
