Kinja'd!!!

Right now I am having a really hard time trying on pulling the trigger on a FisT. I have now driven two and had a blast in both but I can’t help but feel after I put down all of this money I will just have remorse.

I think a lot of this comes from having to give up my Mustang. I can’t even explain how hard it’s going to be letting this car go after putting so much time and money into it. I loved finally getting to own something like this, going to so many car shows and having something to show. The sound of it, the looks and the experience driving it is hard to match.

But I have to let the car go, I’m transferring schools and will have to travel. Not only will it just be difficult in traffic everyday but I will tear apart the car in the process and that would hurt to watch. Not to mention how old it is and the risk of something going wrong. The ST is kind of perfect, sporty, fun, practical, efficient, great for a city, easy in traffic, is the only sports car that will not make my insurance skyrocket, among other things. Not to mention I get a brand new car with a warranty.

Financing right now is really hard to pass up but fully committing is really scary. Getting this car allows me to pay it off by the time college ends and if I get a good job I can really get anything I want with a reasonable price. I could even keep the ST and get something a little bit crazier.

But I don’t know. The whole idea to get the ST is logical however I am having a hard time with this. I really just want to be happy with what I get.

I actually spent some time yesterday reading every Oppo post on this car. I’ve gone crazy trying to figure this out.

That’s pretty much still how I feel, but now I have absolutely zero plans for getting rid of it. It has a forever home.

Since sm70 already shared my post, it sums it up pretty well. If you enjoyed it during the test drive, you’ll likely keep enjoying it. If it makes it easier, the Fiesta ST is probably as rare as your Mach 1, especially in certain colors.

If you’re having a hard time letting the Mustang go... you’re probably going to regret buying the FiST. The question is whether you will regret NOT buying the FiST more than you’re going to regret selling the Mustang.

just my $0.02

Eh, I know of more than one person going from a Mustang to a FiST and not even slightly regretting it. Hell, I know of someone who owned a FiST and a Viper, and sold the Viper because they basically quit driving it after buying the FiST.

You may want to check out the Elantra Sport. Not as raucous as the Fiesta ST but more room and comfort. Price range is similar and Hyundai’s running plenty of incentives. Only thing is the hatch version isn’t out yet.

Not “A” Mustang to a FiST, “HIS” Mustang to a FiST. If you have bonded with it that’s the end.

It’s happened to me three times, to some degree. An early 90's (could be late 80's, I don’t remember) diesel Jetta and a 1988 Chevy Beauville van. I actually cried over the last one, I believe (I AM an overly emotional guy... but still). The third one is my truck. When I got it I fully expected to swap it for the new Colorado in a few years. No more. This one, at least, I have control over—and here it stays.

Well, I mean one of them sold their first car Mustang GT for one.

The only problem with the Hyundai, is the build quality seems even worse. My Mom’s Hyundai is less than 3 years old, and some window seals are already starting to fail. A door handle has failed. A door actuator has failed. It has more squeaks than a puppy with a chew toy.

There is a reason why they are so cheap. They do a really good job at covering it up... At first.

First cars don’t always become more than that to you. Anyways, like I said--if he’s going to regret not getting a FiST more than he’d regret losing the Mustang, he should do it. I can’t say which way is the right way.

Supposedly the newer ones are better but since they’re new there’s not much info out there on how durable they are. But all that build quality related stuff should be covered under the 5-year warranty.

21 months, and 22k miles later, I still love my FiST.

Driving it is awesome, but I do wish the interior was a little nicer/less plastic. Considered swapping to a GTi, but I’m sure I wouldn’t enjoy it as much :)

It is, but when the dealer is 40 minutes away, and this marks visit number 4 for something simple breaking...

I hear ya, it’s annoying to chase down stupid rattles with multiple dealer visits. I’ve even experienced that with BMW. But to me it’s satisfying in spite of the hassle because I’m OCD about rattly noises and I love having the ability to have them fixed at no expense. Biggest thing I miss about having a warranty. Since I have no warranty on my car I’m reduced to sticking little pieces of felt or tape in random places to quell noises. It’s not perfect but there are several rattles I’ve eliminated on my own which is also satisfying.

I bought a new FiST last October. I’m selling it on Friday. No regrets though. It was the right car at the right time. I had looked for used ones at the time and was coming up empty. The guy that’s getting my less than year old FiST with 11,300 miles for 17k is getting an awesome car for an awesome price. I had an old beater ZX3 with constant coolant leaks and a $600 Miata. I needed a reliable replacement for the ZX3 while I fixed the Miata. It was in every measure better than the ZX3, although I do still miss the ZX3 (I like beaters and had saved that one from the junkers). Following a recent engagement, I realized my better half will always have a crossover/SUV of some sort that fills the versatile role. My DD options opened a little and I realized I’d rather have an E90. NA straight 6, RWD, 6sp manual, slicktop, 4 door... If I was 2-car only, it’d be the Miata and a hatch, but with the fiancé’s car in the mix, I had more options so I took a hit on the depreciation. Like I said though, no regrets. Buying new afforded me an awesome week-long vacation to Salt Lake City for the Octane Academy. Can’t speak highly enough for both the area and the driving class.

I keep forgetting about the Utah trip. My parent’s are going because my mom got a GT350. I am very jealous to say the least. It does the decision though.

Yup that’s pretty much it. If I had gotten some random beat up one I wouldn’t be in this predicament. But I got a crazy good deal on a great car. I honestly don’t know if I will regret not getting the ST. I’m going to feel bad no matter what. I just hope a FisT can help me overcome that. I have to sell my Mustang and not look back but it’s so hard not to. ST will literately be better in every way of car ownership. Yet I’m going to miss the experience so much.

I’ve found the car I would option out. I’m going this weekend. If the stars align and I get everything I want in the deal I’ll be driving home in a FisT. If not I hold onto the Mach for a little while longer.

It just doesn’t interest me that much. I kind of like the craziness of the ST anyway. Not a terrible option though.

Oh, well if you HAVE to get rid of the Mustang, that’s another matter. Grab that FiST with both hands.

...I just slapped myself for that one...

Technically, I really don’t have to at all. It’s just a horrible a idea to hold onto a 14 year old Mustang with 115K miles and drive it everyday to my new school. There’s a risk of something bad happening. Not to mention what that commute will do to the car. Then there’s the gas mileage, going from 13 to 30 MPG’s will be huge. I could go on how logically this is a great idea. Deep down I just don’t want to do it. I just have to keep in mind this is for the better until I can get out of college. 2-3 years isn’t that long but it will sure feel like it.

This is going to be a long weekend.

Option 3: Get an Integra (or other 90s Honda). No financing. It’ll have some small issues being 20 years old, but you could easily pay for it with a few months of would be car payments.

Besides, driving old beaters is the best. Because you don’t have to give a shot about dings or scratches.

Trust me. I bought a new car once, but probably never again for that reason alone. And it wasn’t even a car I liked very much.
