My left running shoe is much more comfortable now

Kinja'd!!!

My wife told me  her running shoes aren’t feeling so cushion-y anymore, so I suggested she replace the insoles. That got me curious about the insoles in my running shoes , so I pulled them out to see what they’re made of. I found this food safety label in my left shoe. Someone at the Asics factory must’ve been having a laugh that day.

(Yes, I took the label out.)

(Yes, I took the label out.)

This was right before you microwaved the shoe, I take it.

My first thought was “maybe they’re talking about microwaving them to dry them?”

But then I read the smaller print and realized that my shoes (as far as I know) are not a product “prepared from inspected and passed meat and/or poultry.”

Aren’t feet supposed to be able to pick up some “tastes” to a very small degree? Getting some very looney ideas, here...

How far do you two run? Maybe you knpw this already but when the heels start getting compressed, it’s time for new ones.

My wife mostly walks and I do the elliptical.

I was going through running shoes too quickly because I was also lifting in them. I now have lifting shoes (well, cross trainers) for leg day.

Insoles can wear out more quickly than the midsole or outsole so that’s why I was suggesting insoles to her.

Mine are still fine, I was just curious if they were the basic foam kind or something fancier.

I mean if there’s leather it’s a meat product right?

Have you ever tried a naked shoe? Your lower legs get pretty worn out the first week or so, but then all the little stabilizer muscles get used to them. You don’t have to worry about any foam in the sole wearing out. I burn through sneakers, but was able to hike and run through the desert for several years with these Merrells.

No, these would be terrible for me. I have wide, flat feet and my “running” is on an elliptical. I use stability runners for this purpose because they let me get a good push while “running” and keep my legs from pronating which slows me down. I do use thinner/stiffer cross trainers for leg day.

Hey, maybe what you’re running on is processed blue meat. You never know what those crazy scientists at Tyson cook up!

Seriously though, have a chicken wing in Asia. Its tiny, aka, normal chicken size.

What you have in the States is the equivalent of a goose wing.

Ahhh ok, I do longer distances so the heels are first to go for me.

I’m...something of a chicken expert. Some chicken here in the US is still the normal size. There are producers that raise breeds which aren’t specially bred to be huge, with proper vegetarian feed and space to roam. Typically the birds from these suppliers will be about 3 to 3.5 lbs (1.35 to 1.6 kg).

I typically smush the forefoot but my insoles are also the first thing to go. I can usually tell when I start to get annoying calluses. I haven’t bothered with upgraded insoles because I mistakenly thought I wouldn’t have options with my wide shoes. But hey, a quick search led me to some Spenco wide walking/running insoles which are now on my way. I’m generally happy with how my shoes feel at the moment but won’t hurt to make them a bit nicer.
