You know what they say....’A car with pop-up headlights a day, keeps the popping-up failures closeby...’...or something like that.
Anyways, a pop-up headlight car everyday, because we all like them..........;)

I mean, my dislike for popups doesn’t prevent you from owning them.

I shouldve clarified my sentence above. The ‘everyone likes them’ part was meant sarcastic. I respect everyone’s oppopinions, I’m just busting balls here.

I daily drove a multiple-decade-old car with pop-ups for 9 years. Not a single pop up issue. Most of the pop up cars I see with failed motors are either A) American, or B) Mitsubishi

’A car with pop-up headlights a day, keeps the popping-up failures closeby...’...or something like that.
Haha, I used to make a special point of avoiding purchasing cars with superfluous features, like pop-up headlamps, convertible tops, or sunroofs. I just didn’t want to deal with the hassle of an eventual failure if I could just buy a simpler car that didn’t have that weakness.

Man the RX-7 manages to look great with popups, just as it does without (them open).
Don’t get me wrong, I love popups but they often don’t add to the looks of the car... Even the NA Miata we all love - it’s popup headlights are cute and quirky but they don’t look GREAT. My NA actually had dual smaller lights instead of the one big one and I slightly preferred that myself despite it being nontraditional.

Hahaha, that seems like a ‘watertight’ strategy. Did you ever end up buying something that did have a superfluous feature? And did it fail on you..?

We never got a lot of those here in Holland, but last month, I was at a All USA Cars meet and was amazed at how many of these are left and in proper condition running around here in the land below the sea.

Haven’t bought anything like that yet. But it’s not a dealbreaker for me anymore. I’m a more confident wrencher now, so I don’t mind maintaining and repairing stuff if I have to.

I have to admit, I kinda think the NA’s are cute when they have the lights up. I dont know if it has to do with the size of the car or just the front facia, but I like it. I do however completely agree on the smaller dual lights inside the pop-up mechanism. I think there was a kit to install these. I even remember a kit being made to have the pop-ups come up only a bit, in combination with the dual lighting.

Well, I guess this has been a complete waste of time (LOL!).
On a more serious note, besides these, I also absolutely love the old Cougar style lights. Ow ow ow ow ow ow, and lets not forget the ‘68/’69 Charger style lights...yuuuummmm....

Cute, yes! Very fitting, yes! But the NA Miata isn’t quite as comparable as the FD RX7 when we’re talking about sheer design - my opinion, again coming from a former NA owner. I too like the big stock headlights and probably wouldn’t have switched em if the one I bought didn’t have the dual setup already.
Although very different compared to the car’s round shape, I actually really like the rectangle headlight kit for the NAs as well - those too open up maybe 50% of the stock height. But the popup-delete/flush light kit is awful. 300ZX-style throwup-in-my-mouth.

They aren’t supposed to look great when up, they’re supposed to light the road. The whole point of pop-ups is that it looks great when they’re down.
When they’re up it’s dark anyway.

That’s exactly my point - they look good on the RX7 despite the fact that they’re not something that is really supposed to look good.
