I can’t ever get excited about these parts that so terrible from a price/performance standpoint. Really hope Ryzen is enough that Intel makes Coffee Lake more interesting, though based on what they said today, I really don’t expect it to be much different than Kaby Lake.

You might as well have a Celeron.

I’m sure some of the older Xeons kick its butt.

Not going to lie, I kinda hope the market gets flooded again with cheap processors, buying E5-2670s for $60 last year was awesome.

I’ll just be over here, with my i5 from 2011....I’m pretty sure my phone has a faster processor than my computer.

Probably. And if you need more performance you can get 2 in a motherboard for 48 cores and 96 threads.

Finally, some competition and improvements in the cpu department, thank you ryzen for helping push technology (and business) into the future.

I can’t even fathom what to do with almost a hundred threads. So many VMs.

why not just make a motherboard that uses two processors?

I’ll be around too, with my i7 from like 2009 lol.

It’s intended for use in some kind of rack server for a lot of processing.

I have an i5-2500k, so I understand.

It’s not so bad if I’m not asking too much of it.....I’ve been satisfied for quite a few years, but lately I’ve been starting to want some more power. Especially now that I’m wanting to edit photos more.

I’m finding RAM is the bigger limitation for me. Next build needs 16 gigs at least.

Hopefully Intel comes out with some new mainstream stuff soon.

I’m barely literate when it comes to computers, so maybe my issue is RAM as well. I have 8gb, I think. I’m pretty sure that was maxed out with what was made when my Mac mini was new, I guess I should check if I can get more in it now

Once again Intel one ups AMD with the least amount of thought or effort possible. 16 cores you say? We’ll make an 18 core HEDT CPU.

I’m super glad Ryzen is forcing them to actually move though, maybe they’ll stop selling dual cores now.

Noob question: I recently (last Oct.) built a budget PC for media streaming/photo editing with the plan being to upgrade it down the line. I went with the i3-6100 Skylake processor because everything I read said that Skylake was the architecture moving forward. I did reduce costs by purchasing a B150 MoBo. The X-Core does, in fact, use Skylake, but Intel mentions that it is using the new X299 chipset. If I want to upgrade to an X-Core down the line, would I need to purchase a new MoBo, even though I have an LGA1151 socket? Or will the X-Core still work with the B150 chipset just without the extra USB3.0/PCI/Overclocking features? Obviously, I’m not talking about the $2k bastard, but maybe something like the i7-7740X or i7-7800X.

Glad someone said it for me. It’s interesting how long it has taken for the enterprise architecture to reach consumer grade components.

Truth be told I am more interested in the 64 PCI-Express lanes that “threadripper” reportedly packs.
