OPPO I need your help. I’m having a hard time determining what a good value is on these newer but high mileage or older but low mileage trucks. Nada and KBB seem to be mostly useless in these situations. Take a look at this one and let me know what you think.

All I can tell you is what I learned recently. Cars age even if they haven’t been driven that much. An old low mileage car is still an old car and will have things to deal with that an equivalent mileage new car won’t. The inspection should tell you what those things are and whether you want to deal with them. Good luck.

The one you posted is actually relatively fairly priced. Most diesel 2500s, especially the pre-emission mid-00s models, will be about $16-20k up to 350000 miles.

LMM? Pass. Look for an LBZ (2007 8th digit is D). LMM is “6.”

Yea, that’s what I’m concerned about with some of the older low mileage trucks I’ve seen

Is there a common problem with those or is the LBZ just a much better engine?

Just possible issues with EGR/EGR cooler and DPF on a higher mileage truck. LBZ is pre-emissions, but worse interior.

The used diesel truck market is kinda strange, in that mileage doesn’t lower value nearly as much as it does on any other vehicle.

The three biggest killers of the engines are lack of maintenance, excessive idling and short trips, and tuners. Check the engine hour meter if there is one to see idle vs running hours - Not sure when they started putting them in. Also, avoid an oilfield truck or one that’s been modified because they get beat on.

Otherwise, check the rest of the truck for problems. Looking at a 10 yr old one with high miles, rust will be a concern. Also the front ends will eventually start to wear out and cause problems due to the weight of the engine.

If you get one, plan on changing all of the fluids and fuel filters as soon as you get it, regardless of what the selling dealer says.

Otherwise that’s not too bad a price for model/miles and is an uncommon combo (GM 3500 SRW). If it checks out (and emissions gear is good) and is what you want it’s decently priced for a 1LT Z71. Similar trucks under 200k or LTZ trucks will be on the $20-25k range most likely.
