If it was your money, which one would you buy as your DD? They’re super similar in power and size but the Hyundai has an extra 200 lbs on it while being around $3000 cheaper.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

The Civic comes with adaptive dampers and an LSD but the Elantra can be equipped with a 7 speed DCT.

And finally the Civic comes in a coupe and a sedan but the Elantra comes as a sedan and a hatchback.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Which one would you be parking in your garage?

Elantra Sport sedan with the DCT. More attractive and no ricer stigma.

Neither.

I hate the Civic. It’s hideous. And the Hyundai won’t drive as well as the Honda.

I’d get a base Golf, then lower it, better wheels/tires and a tune. Or find a used GTI.

Luckily I bought a new GTI, so I don’t have to worry about making that choice at all.

The Hyundai based on looks alone. I don’t care if and how the Honda may be superior, Christ Almighty that is one ugly ass car.

Elantra with dct. Honda is far too boy racer, and dct is best for socal traffic

I mean, you’re not wrong but the whole point of this exercise is the the two cars in question are extremely similar in specs but are still different in execution.

Think of this as the bronze medal game that happens at the Olympics.

Honda, because steering feel. Realistically though, I will stick with the answer I gave over a year ago, and just sacrifice a little practicality for a Fiesta ST.

The Honda for no other reason than looks. The Civic is easily the best looking compact and the Si tweaks help make it even better. The Elantra looks hilariously cheap and dated like some crap Dodge or Chrysler shat out 5-10 years ago.

Elantra.

The Honda is too busy in the grill and interior design. Still a boy racer.

Now that’s an answer I can get behind! Plus a civic Si is really more like $25k and I’ve seen Elantra sports around here for around $19k, $6k is a lot of miata

This is tough. The Civic is ugly as sin but probably better to drive. The Elantra sedan is the best looking of the bunch. But as a DD I think I would pick the Elantra hatch with the DCT.

The Elantra hatchback...I prefer hatches to coupes and sedans (yes, I know the Civic has a hatch option as well). As for the Civic, I prefer the Elantra’s styling a lot more. Honda’s styling approach this generation seems to be “ADD ANGLES EVERYWHERE EVEN IF THEY COMPLIMENT NOTHING.....AND FAKE BLACK VENTS EVERYWHERE TOO!!!111111oneoneone” The Elantra looks a lot more refined to me.

Also, cheaper. Also, Hyundai and Kia’s quality has been going way up for several years now and Honda’s has been said to be slowly decreasing (also the Civic is getting so much more bloated - the current Civic is the size of the Elantra which is Hyundai’s more middle-sized car....the Civic USED to be an Accent competitor!)

Also, I am currently biased towards Hyundai as I’ve put 65000kms on my 2009 Accent I picked up in 2013 and, short of an unseen-black-ice-induced accident in January 2015 that required about $1500 in bodywork, it’s been nothing but a solid trooper.

And Civic SIs are for high school kids that think neon accents and a K&N filter sticker will make them faster than a Mustang. Little do they know they just have a sporty (but still slow), overstyled fwd economy car with a silly wing on the back.

This is a tough one, but I think I would need one more piece of information before I could make this decision. Am I keeping this car for the indefinite future or just for a few years?

Of the two the Hyundai is by far the better looking car. If it was something that I was going to drive just until the warranty expires I’d probably take the Hyundai. But if it is something that I will be keeping for considerably longer I’d take the Civic. In the long run the Honda is most likely going to be more reliable and probably hold it’s value better too.

But if I just had to choose one without an idea of how long I would be planning on keeping it, I would probably take the Civic. But I would spring for the optional paper bag to put over my head when getting into and out of the car.

Yeah I’d definitely take the Civic then... But seriously Honda, can you please just make simple decent looking Civic’s again. These do not look good and they’re definitely not going to age well.

Although in spirit of full disclosure I may be slightly biased since I currently own a 9 year old Civic. Lol

Yeah I have nothing against Hyundai’s at all. But I’m honestly just not that familiar with them. I can only say my personal experience with Honda’s has been stellar and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.

Plus all things being otherwise the same an old Honda will hold it’s value better than a comparable Hyundai.

It will also never have the resale value of a Honda, that price difference is nothing compared to the Hyundai depreciation. Plus I could never drive a Hyundai. I built the huge Hyundai auto show booth for them a few years ago and installed it a couple times, they still use it in LA. I looked at the cars a lot, it just can’t beat the history Honda has with me. I’ve had three and never had a problem, I had a 2010 Si and it was pretty fun. I still get to drive it sometimes, I gave it to my mom.

I would pick the Elantra over the Civic. A buddy of mine has the Si sedan, and I have driven the Elantra with the DSG. The Elantra feels more grown up and more comfortable. I have yet to drive the 6 speed though.
