guarantee it’ll have nothing to do with the BRZ and it’ll just be some special wrx sti (based on the image)

That doesn’t look like the rear of a toyobaru to me.

FP commenter on reveal: “Meh, too expensive for a Subaru. Why would I pay BMW money for the car that the BRZ always should have been? Maybe I’d consider a used one.”

FP commenter in five years: “No one bought the BRZ because it was a pig. “

FP commenter in six years: “Why doesn’t anyone sell cheap sports cars anymore?”

FP commenter in ten years: “The BRZ was legendary.”

FP commenter in fifteen years: “I’m glad that Subaru is making another sports car, but I have a feeling this is going to suck. It’s probably going to be a fat pig and completely miss the point of the BRZ. These were dirt-cheap entry level cars aimed at enthusiasts, but priced for the masses. This will probably cost $30k–$40k.”

Ignoring inflation is the genius bit of sarcasm in this comment.

I’m so glad you picked up on that. I was going for a “remember how Supras were $15,000 new?” thing.

It was seen out testing a week ago. Note the well concealed STI badge.

I’d guess that no hood scoop = no turbo.....

My Mk2 was 14k to start in 1982 haha. The mk4 was about 45k in the 90's which is why they didn’t do so well against the vette. That’s why I think the LC500 is the true Supra successor.

I die inside every time I read though a comment thread where people seem to think Supras were ever priced like Camrys.

Next time I buy a new car, I’m so sticking some stuff from Pep Boys on it and putting electrical tape over the power train badges.

Pretty sure this is just going to be a remake of the tS that was released in Japan a while back. No bump in power, but gets some different wheels and aero bits. I’m actually looking at getting the old tS kit for my BRZ right now.

I’d consider buying one if it had a sunroof.

But really what’s going to shoot this in the foot is the usual Subaru dealer, “no test drives on performance models, you can drive it if you buy it” nonsense.

Any schmuck can walk into a Ford or Chevy dealer and test drive a 400+ hp muscle car with the only potential hurdle being some boilerplate form saying something like “don’t drive like a dumbass, you break it you bought it.”

But nooo, turbo Subarus are commodities more precious than magical unicorn farts and can’t be delivered to their eventual well-heeled, “yes I will buy this car without driving it” owners with any more than 6 miles on the odometer, OR ELSE.

Really? The Subaru dealer near me let me take a WRX STI around the block, and I wasn’t even shopping. I had just dropped my wife’s car off for a recall repair. They’ve also let me drive the Brat they keep on the showroom that isn’t for sale. Supposedly if the sales manager is free when they finally get the takata bomb replacement in stock I’ll get to drive their 360.

It’s not every dealer, kinda depends on where they are and how many of them they sell. The place we bought my wife’s Impreza will let you drive a regular WRX if they have one on the lot, which isn’t all of the time, even though they sell shit tons of other Subarus. But no dice on an STI. I’ve even heard of some dealers not letting BRZs out for test drives.

You don’t need a hood scoop to run a turbo. The new Forester XT doesn’t have a hood scoop either.

That’s not to say this will definitely be turbo... who knows.
