I’d buy a lightly used Infiniti EX35, that’s how. RWD, VQ engine, and slightly upmarket looks. I’d also singlehandedly skew the demographic for that car below the age of 70.

The #$^*@#$ ^ CVT is standard in the US - eff that, I’m out.

Canada only gets Black, Silver, Blue & White. US gets lots more colours on the base model.

White and with the 1.6 diesel engine seems to be the most popular option here in the UK, don;t know why they bother offering any other colour or engine here tbh!

That’s weird to me - I know that US-spec cars and Canada-spec cars have some differences, but I still don’t understand why the transmissions and colors are different.

The answer to that is a place called Quebec. Quebec unlike the US and most of Canada overwhelmingly prefer manual transmissions. So it makes sense to offer one in Canada whereas they’d sell 14 manuals in America over a year. Colors I have no clue.

I don’t like the EX. I have a strong anti-Outbacktified vehicle bias, and it fails the sit-behind-myself test.

I wouldn’t. No CVT’s not even once.

it’s not that we prefer Manuals here in Quebec, it’s more that we are cheap.

Having a bare bones Manual (the Quebec Special)will get the cheap sticker price to get people in your showroom.

i was once like you.

now I have a CVT snowmobile, a CVT Side-by-side and a CVT Pathfinder

all that after 20 years of manual cars only.

once i get another fun car it will be a manual, but no time for fun cars with 3 kids.

Boo Nissan, another AWD without the Manual Trans.

Gets back in his AWD CVT Pathfinder shaking his fist.....

This seems to add up, which explains why I was able to find my stripper F30 (no nav, manual) but most of these cars are from Quebec. Whereas the local Ontario ones are all fully loaded.

I used to hate the EX until I realized that no matter how much I complained, Infiniti would never make a G wagon. It’s like a consolation prize with the bonus of being a sleeper. I always made fun of it because it’s not even trying. It’s just a hatchback.

I’d be willing to accept it if the back seat were decent. But it’s too small. Same problem with the original BMW X1 35i. In theory it’s the closest we’d get to a 335i wagon since the US only got the 328 wagon, and I’d be willing to compromise on the Outbackiness if it had a decent back seat. But in reality the back seat is just too small.

Yeah, I’m big on the back seat and the EX always seemed like it was aimed firmly at empty nesters. The current 3 wagon and A4 wagons are much better than they used to be, but that isn’t saying much. I’m 6'2" and the first thing I do when considering a car is adjust the driver’s seat, then get in the seat directly behind it.

I don’t think “aimed at empty nesters” is a good reason to not have a decent back seat though. Because empty nesters are always going out to dinner with some other couple and want a car that can fit 4 people comfortably.

The only thing I need a back seat for is the semi-frequent times my wife and I go visit her mom and take her to church & dinner. She uses a walker so we put her in front and one of us rides in back. My wife’s Impreza hatch is not a big car, but it’s plenty comfy in back for me, and the walker fits in the trunk.

Up until last week I had no opinions on the Rogue, or pretty much any SUVs in general. Then last week my Outback XT had a bearing in the transmission let go. As I had a weekend trip to play bluegrass coming up and had planned to camp in the back of the outback, I decided to rent an SUV. Hertz gave me a Rogue.

I should mention that this this was a bare bones US rental spec Rogue, with the CVT. Maybe I’m biased and the upgrade options and manual drastically change the nature of the car, but I’m not sure personally I’d find it worth it. I was actually just remarking to my wife how it did everything I asked of it perfectly - shuttling me to work for a week and on a 500 mile roadtrip with relative comfort - yet the entire time there was no sense of fun or enjoyment about the trip. It felt like a car for people that need transportation but who hate the act of driving... not to mention the atrocious blind spots. It did barely fit a twin sized air mattress in the back, but honestly my ‘05 outback has more room - not to mention an AWD system that was more than just FWD based. Gas millage was pretty good however. The option of a manual here would make me like it better, but I fail to see how it could make it worth buying. I personally can’t wait to return the Rogue tomorrow!

Yeah, no kids here. Granted both of my cars are traditional slushboxes, but I just can’t stand the way CVT’s feel to drive

I hated CVTs in cars cause I only tried a Versa when they first came out.

But on the Pathfinder with the 3.5 it’s a whole different story. I was expecting it to feel like shit, but it works and feels great( keep in mind, my transmission was just replaced under warranty after 3.5 years) they were known to be problematic in 2013-2014.

No one would be able to guess it’s a CVT except for the constant acceleration.

I’d get the SV FWD in silver (charcoal cloth) with no options. I want the power driver’s seat for the extra adjustments over a manual seat, and I want silver because there’s not much contrast with the chrome trim around the windows. Palatial Ruby is a nice color, but I think the visual mass of the front end (the hood/fender area is shaped like a big, shallow wave) really calls for a lighter color.
