Kinja'd!!!

I want to do something crazy and put my desktop into an older ATX beige tower. Got one of those Dell Dimension Palo Alto cases that y’all know I love but they have proprietary front panels so I will just use that as a retro box. Anyone know a good place to get one in good shape or have one lying around in the US? I’d pay shipping of course. Just make sure it is ATX and has front panel connectors like these

Kinja'd!!!

Thank you.

If anyone had one of those laying around it would be you. Maybe try a used computer place? I have no idea.

Build a 10 core xeon with two GTX Titan Xps and try to run it with Windows 98.

No, better: Windows Millenium.

Hmm, all my old stuff is stashed at my parents, so I can’t really send you anything. I’m pretty sure I have at least one Enlight 7237 or similar:

Use some case that has yellowing in the plastic parts. Otherwise it’s going to look to fancy.

Mine was extremely loud. I didn’t realize how loud 80mm case fans could be until I built a system in that case (which had 5 or 6 of them). Primary driving factor as to why I haven’t built a machine with case fans smaller than 120mm since 2005.

The front panel is proprietary like this so it’d be a lot of delicate work and I don’t want to mess it up and ruin it :P

I’ve always loved the idea of a fully built high end PC stuffed into the case for an old slow POS

That’s really not hard to re-pin at all. Only 8 of those wires do anything. You could even cut and tape (preferably solder) the common ATX connectors to that ribbon cable. you might even be able to use “maker” style jumper leads with female connectors on both ends to do it.

I used to have an ATX Tornado case, it had dual side exhaust fans etc. I’ll have to check my basement and see if I still have it. If I do, it’s yours!

I might have a 3DFX card to throw in ;)

I found a front panel connector from an old Dimension 2400 and tried it on my main mobo, works perfectly. Hopefully it is long enough.

Sweet. I figured out a way to rig together a front panel from the Dell Dimension XPS T500 case. Might still be interested in this though!

There’s a blocked pin. Put a needle in it and removed the filling, now it fits into my Z170 ATX mobo. Powers on/off like a charm.

So looks like I will need a 92MM PWM fan + a smaller cooler.
