Pretty fun way to blow $15. Or $40 if you feel like racing. All kinds of cars and all kinds of classes.

I had a dragster backfire while doing the warm up burnout about 20' away. You know how loud a backfire is on a normal car? Same deal except it’s a dragster so it’s about the loudest goddamn thing already before the backfire. Sounded how I would imagine a 50 caliber round might sound coming out of the barrel at the same distance. It’s been hours and I’m still ringing.

Also, big props to Sonoma Raceway for offering the chance for high school kids to drag race against police officers in squad cars. They didn’t have that today but I think it’s one of the coolest community outreach gestures ever. Back when I was 17 finding out if you were faster than a police car involved a hell of a lot more risk.

The cops/kids thing is really cool. Curious as to how many highschoolers are rolling around in rides faster than a police cruiser. Would love to see that kind of thing near me.

That sounds awesome. I want to race a police car. The 4runner would get walked but I just want to see how walked it would get.

I live about a half hour from there. I have just never understood the desire to drag race. I’ll go around the circuit at sears point though, nice elevation changes.

It’s a bit weird, I agree. I had a lady with me who I expected would hate it but she found it way more interesting after I explained why they were spraying down parts of the track with glue and some of the safety equipment and car classes and how things were organized, at least as I understood it. She remarked that if she were there without me it would have been like watching a baseball game with no idea what the rules were and impossibly boring.

I think the thing that really impressed her were that so many of the drivers and workers were women. Once she realized that those were women hitting 250mph and running quarters in mid 7's she was fascinated.
