Here’s a one-off convertible coupe XJ that Jag made in the 90s.

It was just a shell, but it’s since been made running and street legal: http://www.davidmarksgarages.net/daimlercorsica_part1

I never would have thought XJs would look so great as a convertible or with two doors. I wish they had actually produced these.

Wow. That really is a beautiful car.

That car really should of gone into production.

I know, right? I guess since Jag was in the process of ending XJS production and introducing the XK8, they didn’t want to cannibalize potential XK8 sales.

Jag did recently apply for a trademark for “XJS,” so I’m going to hold out hope that that means a modern XJ coupe may someday appear.

I’ve always hated the XJS.

The XJS came about from the E-Type no longer meeting U.S. regulation (the E-Type already having to change during Mk2 and Mk3 production because of U.S. regs.

Like the Land Rover Series had to have it’s head lights moved from the inboard position to outboard (though both remained in production for some time in the 60s).

The Morris Minor had to have it’s lights lifted.

US light regulations always ruin everything. I wish that Canada had gone with UK/EU regulations instead of adopting the US ones, or similar.

Reminds me of a Bentley Azure with the top up. Good thing that even beautiful examples of the sedans are worth little today, so if one wants a custom labor of love, just make one themselves.

Ye’, the U.S. lights regs are an arse.

Particularly as the Jeep Wrangler is still around.

Unfortunately Canada not going with U.S. light regs would of been incredibly costly for several reasons.

Then again if the orange faced idiot has his ways NAFTA may go to sh1t anyway.

So watch this space.

I was genuinely thinking that if I had the cash, I’d like to make one of these. It doesn’t look that involved. They basically just made the front doors a little longer and cut out the rears.

Interestingly, despite the fact that the car was a shell, Jag actually engineered a working electric top just for this car. When they converted it into a running car, they had to take care not to touch the top, because there weren’t any diagrams for it.

That’s all it would take, cash. Tens of thousands of dollars unless you are a truly skilled bodyman, but it could be done. Engineering the top would be the most difficult bit. Wheelbase appears stock, and body reinforcement shouldn’t be too bad. And you’ll need to fall in love with it, as it might not be easy to sell :)

Well, the E-Type was also, like, 15 years old by the mid ‘70s. Even great designs can’t be sold forever, especially in a competitive segment.

considering the XJC i’m not too surprised this thing is a looker. although the shorter overall body and wheelbase of the series 3 does lend itself better to two doors than this x308(?).

this looks more bentley than jag, especially in profile. i’m not sure the model. and in this color screams nursing home pimp. which is alright in my book.

i do shudder to think of the.... uh... shudder you get from this thing while going around high speed curves on a bumpy surface.

(also, thanks for keeping oppo jag)

I love the XJC so much. If I ever go off the deep end with my Jag love, that and a targa XJS are at the top of my list for self-inflicted torture.

It’s an X300. The giveaway is the presence of rectangular turn indicators (they’re oval on the X308), which is basically the only exterior difference between the two.

Since this was just a rolling shell, I’m guessing that they didn’t do too much to strengthen the frame when they chopped the top off. Still, the old Jag IRS is one of the best suspensions ever put in a car, so I’m guessing that it would hold its own okay.

itd be an easy sell with the documentation and a low enough price. definitely not getting any ROI though.
