The Lexus is gone.

Kinja'd!!!

I sold it for $2900, which is $100 less than I was hoping, but it’s not too bad. I miss it but so far I’m not regretting it. It was a nice couple who bought, they drove an hour to come look at it.

Now the hunt is on for a replacement, although it may be difficult. I’m gonna be gone for a while in June, but still need a car off and on. I definitely need one by July. Plus I’m rather picky about what I like, so most of my options are roughly 1.5 hours away in STL. I did look at a couple today, but only one really stood out. It’s an 2005 Acura TSX with 188k on the odo, which would still be 7 years newer and has close to 80k fewer miles than the Lexus. It’s in pretty decent shape, other than some rust and wheel wobble above 35, which is a bit of a red flag. It could just need an alignment and balancing, but it could be suspension or a bent wheel. No dash lights is a big plus, as well as strong brakes. It’s listed at $3900 but could probably get negotiated down. Other than whatever is causing the wobble and new tires, this could be a good little car. Oh, and a quick VIN check shows full service records at a semi-local Acura dealer.

We shall see, I’m only free 3 days this upcoming week, plus 3 people with jobs will be sharing 1 car. We’ll see how this goes.

The real question is why he took his Acura to get serviced at a Lexus dealer...hmmmmm

Because Acura and Honda dealers tend to be stingy af?

I really liked your GS too. It seems like you like lux-cruisers. I would look at Lincoln Town Car. My dad has one as his limo and the air suspension is incredibly nice and plush. Plus, the labor and parts rate on them is ridiculously cheap since they share all the same basic, cheap Ford parts as all the taxis and cop cars and other limos. Body on frame construction means even after multiple fender benders and more severe accidents, you’ll be able to continue driving it without issues.

I’m not sure I want air suspension, that can be rather costly to fix.

Hmm, well for your daily needs you probably won’t need air anyway. It’s just really good for taxi and limo since its’ job is to keep the ride height and damping similar even when you are packed with passengers and luggage. I would look at the IS300? Pretty much TSX competitor, but keeps you in RWD with 2JZ smoothness and reliability, and if you don’t mind automatic tranny, awesome wagon form.

Would you get the rust repaired if you picked it up? That rust doesn’t look too bad...boo auto tho :P

I’m looking at basically every Acura or Lexus model, IS, GS, LS, TSX, TL, RSX, even MDX.

I’d see how much it’d cost to fix, but yes, I would try to repair it assuming it wouldn’t be more than $700 or so. Also, auto is required. I don’t know how to drive stick (I’m willing to learn) but my parents would have to be able to drive it too, so no manual.

Good luck if you go for it! :)

Get your mechanic to look at it before you buy - want to make sure it hasn’t been hit, especially in the front.

Of course. I always do a prepurchase inspection, too much money on the line not to. If it has been hit on the front, then it was early on and very well repaired, but both headlights are slightly cloudy, making me think it’s all original.

Headlight covers, or lamps themselves?

Interesting too that a 12 year old car looks, when cleaned up, as though it’s only been out for 3 or 4 years. It’s understated, as opposed to today’s overdesigned gawping front ends.

My aunt had a 2006 TSX and Power Steering completely borked on it at 212k. She ended up giving it away to our pastor who needed a car since it cost too much to be fixed.

Covers, I should say. It’s a fantastic design. Plus 05 was it’s first year so it’s more modern than other 05 models, like the Lexus IS.
