Kinja'd!!!

Some pictures from our day at the Speedway. We were lucky to see some friends, enjoy great weather and to have some fun. The walk through the historic paddock was especially nice. I love the paint jobs on the roadsters. Word on the street is that Honda may have an issue. Combine that with the weather and the race tomorrow should be interesting. Off to bed now and the race tomorrow.

I’m jelly. I went to Indy in 1976. We drove a motor home from Chicago and parked somewhere outside the speedway. We got there a couple of days ahead of the race and spent most of the free time just watching all the people arrive. We did get to the museum, and took a ride around the track in a van, complete with the driver pointing out all the black spots on the wall and which crash they represented. My mom and I had a bet—my money was on AJ Foyt, and she picked Johnny Rutherford. Rutherford won a rain-shortened race driving a McLaren M16C (Foyt took 2nd), and I was stuck doing the dishes for a week.

One of my friends works closely with Rutherford in INDYCAR and says he is a really good guy. Not sure if that eases the pain of doing dishes for a week, but it is something.

We are excited for the race. The kids have been troopers. The big challenge tomorrow will be the crowds and waiting for the race to start.

It is a good time. Traffic is CRAZY. Be ready for all kinds of weather. Download the INDYCAR App and listen to the race if you can. If you have a scanner the spotters guide you can find online has the frequencies.

My mom had gone to the race the previous year without me. She said that when she got there the guys in the camper next to theirs had spelled out “COORS” with their empty beer cans. By Sunday afternoon they had spelled “INDIANAPOLIS.”
