Kinja'd!!!

In one of the largest car shows on the west coast crammed full of supercars like the new NSX, Ford GT, Ferrari LaFerrari to insanely modified GT-R’s, Autozams, and brown manual AMG Wagons... This Datsun stole the show. Highlights below so you can tell me how wrong/right I am.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

A thing of beauty. I’ve never wanted to pick one of these up and restore it so badly. Look at that engine bay and tell me you don’t get all warm and fuzzy.

Here’s a pretty insane GT-R that is apparently static. The carbon fiber pieces are polished to the point of being usable mirrors.

Kinja'd!!!

Cue the “ew, tire stickers” comments in 3...2...1... This build is pretty gnarly. 14 year old me would have been drooling. Rivets, flares, decals and a turbo with more displacement than 90% of the engine options available in Europe. Have a few detail shots.

Kinja'd!!!

If you’re on the other end of the spectrum in terms of Nissan enjoyment, here’s a fairly unmolested beast to calm your passion-rage.

Kinja'd!!!

Still need some eye bleach? Too much jdm for you to handle? Okay grandpa... Hold on. I’ve got just the thing. Feast your eyes on this lust-worthy German.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Now, I know what you’re thinking.

“he goes to a show loaded with supercars and all he gets are pictures of 3 Z’s and a shitty wagon? Boring!”

To which I reply, you’re dumb and probably need your online privileges revoked but that’s okay because I’ve got a few other special cars to make sure everyone leaves happy.

Kinja'd!!!

First American car. I was hoping for a Charger Hellcat, but alas it wasn’t to be.

Kinja'd!!!

What is this behemoth and where can I buy one for under 2k.

Kinja'd!!!

Import car from japan

Throw on some Volk Te37's

????

Profit

Kinja'd!!!

And lastly, I found this downright incredible Miata parked next to an okay S6 that really, REALLY needs you to know that it has AWD.

But yeah about that Datsun....

The behemoth is a 4 wheel drive Volkswagen LT in firefighter guise. My best bet would be to look for them in Germany, though 2k including shiping might be tight.

I really like that Datsun, but I wish you had a photo of the intake side...

I’m a Datsun guy through and through, and that L28 turbo in a 240 is just awesome sauce.

The Datsun is gorgeous (my first car was a Datsun B210, a true POS).

But that white Vette is quite nice too.

Supercars are boring, I walk right by. Oh don’t get me thinking about putting a turbo motor in my 240Z! I have the original engine in mine. I have triple carbs and a five speed and it has more than enough ufda for coastal road driving. To be honest you would have to brace the shit out of an old Z if you put a lot of power in them, they are light and not really made for that. The original fuel injection on L28s is awful, you would have to pay up for a good aftermarket setup, looks like that is likely.

** Oh god I just noticed the awful modern mirrors they put on that poor Z, I hate it when people put modern crap like that on a 1970 car.

This show is every Saturday and I live a mile away and have weekends off so I’m hoping I see more of it!

I wish you hadn’t mentioned those mirrors because now I can’t stop looking at them....

I hope you’re thinking about a turbo motor. There doesn’t need to be a logical reason for more power!

Heh, well my car is all original so I can’t go swapping. If I could build a car from a 260Z or something I would try it. People shouldn’t mess with early 240Zs.

I’m the owner of the 280Z being discussed here (yes, it is a 280Z, not a 240Z; I fool a lot of people because I retrofit 240 bumpers on my 280) and I really appreciate all of the nice comments people have made about the car. Believe it or not, I even appreciate 415s30's comment about my side mirrors! Truth is, I actually told someone at the show that I kind of regret doing that, as I think they are a little out of place with the rest of what I did to the car. The car itself has been through a series of restorations/modifications over the years to get it where it is today, and those got put on in the late 90's before I really went crazy with the rest of the it, so hopefully that helps you understand a little bit about why it doesn’t fit as well with the rest of the car. I may well look into seeing if I can rectify that in the future, because basically I agree with you. Just FYI, I have owned this car for 38 years. It’s a 1976 that I bought in 1979 as my very first car ever, right out of college.

Oh I mean no offense, I am very against restomodding and I am not afraid to say so! The rest is great. I have seen many backdated Z bumpers, which is good since safety park bench bumpers are an abomination, Jags too. I’ve had a 71 Z for a while and am only getting closer to finishing it. I found it in a shed in Santa Cruz. Been all through it and rebuilt the original motor. I post on here, just finishing up some paint and finishing touches actually:

There is a local man near me with a 71 he bought new, as well as an old lady with a dark green 73 automatic she bought new and still DDs! I talked to her in the supermarket parking lot once and she wanted help finding a way to get a new interior, well I let her know that wasn’t a problem! My friend has a shop that specializes in Japanese cars and they personally have Zs so pretty much everyone needing help goes to them, my car pics are at their place.

Mate.

Skylines aren’t Zs.

Also there’s something ironic about putting speed parts like a spoiler on a static car. It literally only exists to provide grip as wind rushes across it, but it will never do that. Particularly the R35, which is built for speed and not so pretty.

Even the mildly cooked R34 makes me mad. It just looks like every other R34.

I adore Seras.
