The new CX-9 is nice.

Kinja'd!!!

My car is having a trim piece replaced under warranty so I did what I do best and wandered around the showroom.

This is a Grand Touring model and man is it nice. My wife and I are definitely going to own one someday if we have another kid.

I finally got her talked out of a minivan.

Disclaimer: I don’t hate minivans in general. At least not like I used to. I just don’t care for any of them on the market, except for the Odyssey and Sienna, which are too expensive and always beat to hell on the used market.

It’ll be a while before we upgrade, since our ‘13 CX-5 only has 44k on it. But we’ll definitely make the jump from CX-5 to CX-9 someday.

Also, side note: I got my bumper guard for $95.00 on Amazon and my friend installed it for free. Dealer wants $124.95 plus installation. Ouch.

The top trim sticker price is mindbogglingly high, I get it Mazda doesn’t have premium brand to worry about poaching sales from but damn.

I would still take one in a heart over say a Highlander but I’m not convinced that I would go with one over a minivan if I really needed the space.

We road trip just fine with an infant and a toddler in my CX-5, you just have to play tetris with packing. Thankfully we are now past needing a swing/hammock so the only annoying baby furniture is the high chair/booster seat.

Yeah. The CX-5 has a ton of cargo room for the size it is. We’re not upgrading for a long, long time. At least not until my 6 is paid off since we refuse to have two car payments at once (we paid the CX-5 off way early).

I personally think that the front end is really gaudy and overstyled. The rest of the car is definitely better than the competition though. I’m sure they blow the Nissan Rogue pretty far out of the water.

Well at least the “installation” still takes a bit of art to align the piece. Still not as ridiculous as carriers charging activation fees for phones, which is literally taking the SIM card and putting it in your phone.

I truly cannot believe why so many people buy Nissan Rogues right now. The Mitsubishi Outlander is just as awful and boring but offers more value, the Mazdas look better and perform better, and the other Japanese offerings at least are a bit updated (CR-V) compared to the ageing Rogue. The only thing that isn’t better is a RAV4, and I can’t figure out why they sell so many of those either. I remember when the X-Trail and RAV4 were cool, not these bland lumps on wheels.

Exactly. The Rogue is literally one of the most lifeless cars money can buy. Like I get practical and cheap, but I don’t get what makes so many people buy them over cars offered by other brands. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I also remember Mitsubishi having a better warranty.

What surprises me as well as how good they sell, even though Nissan never upgrades anything ever.

I checked out a TOTL CX-9 whilst my Mazda5 was getting an oil change. I did find the quality of the interior and controls to be extremely good, I was surprised/not surprised at the lack of room inside, but then again, most SUV/CUV/SAV/Crossovers seem ridiculously small inside compared to their external dimensions. I have no idea what I’ll do should I ever have to replace my 5 :/

My local Mazda dealer wanted $500 to install mudflaps/splashguards on my Miata. I understand the need to turn a profit, but that’s a little much.

It was tough to find a manual transmission Mazda5 when they were new, so finding a used one on the market years after the vehicle was discontinued will be next to impossible. But like many other manual transmission equipped cars, they tend to be owned by enthusiasts and therefore cared for more than their automatic brethren.

Mine was not by the PO, but that’s ok! I knew it had an accident history when i bought it*. The current owner has a notebook of most tanks of gas and all minor services done. That’s totally normal.

*The lower air intake track doesn’t quite lineup, the driver side rocker panel wasn’t repaired and there’s a tiny spot of rust on the front lip of the driver side sliding door that looks like it was started by being nicked by the driver door.

Well as I pointed out, the Outlander at least has price going for it. If you’re gonna get something bland, at least make it cheap, big, and bland so you get as much car as you can for your little money.
