Just told all my employees to cut out at 2 and I’ll hang around to handle any issues. State level supervisor to the Funscue!

I’m a good boss.

An article for your time on the merits of zipper merges.

The thing is, though... if everyone “drives ruder”, you will end up with a naturally occurring zipper merge, but with the teeth closer together.

I support this message.

I love zipper merges. It’s too bad my state doesn’t require them. We were taught in driver’s ed that it’s a *good idea* to practice, but unfortunately that’s (strictly speaking) not how right-of-way works around here. You just kinda have to be on your guard and wing it...

Zipper merges only work when everyone co-operates and has the same expectations. “I’m gonna let ONE car in front of me, no more, no less.” You’d pretty much have to amend right-of-way laws to make it a required practice, as well as generate a massive education campaign like they did with “click it or ticket” so that everybody knows what to do.

As a former Minnesotan I can confirm zipper merging is awesome.

I agree, most people will crowd the lane to not let people by. I think it’s starting to catch on here though.

Yeah I see that a lot too. It’s too bad, because usually those “blockers” technically have the R.O.W (in my state), and it hurts traffic flow. Sadly, there’s not much the cops can do to encourage or enforce zipper merges here. I really admire Minnesota and other DOTs that make zipper merging mandatory.
