I’m ignorant when it comes to them.

Ended up buying an 06 883L and it needs its forks replaced due to it being wrecked.

Kinja'd!!!

Yes the wheels needs replaced too but a family friend had one that worked.

Can I get away with just replacing the fork tubes, re using the guts and send it on it’s way? Or is it recommended to just find a compatible front end, trees, tubes, guts and all and going that route?

Latter is returning little to no results without going complete custom. I bought it for 325. Like to spend a few hundred and flip it, or just keep it around.

EDIT:

Found these, judging by the above pic and those they look the same. Sure the springs will be different. I think the trees are usable, have to look again. Probably going to rip that windshield off, sell it and recoup some money for that. Going to do the same with the bags. I just can’t stand them, I guess it’s my bias coming from a sport bike world where they don’t have them. Plus they also help black out the bike some more.

I’d probably take them apart and just replace the parts that I thought were bad, but that’s probably not the right way to do it, especially if you want to flip it. In that situation I’d feel far more comfortable replacing the whole front end.

If you’re going to flip it, check prices very closely before you sink a bunch of money into it. The used Harley market right now is flooded and I’m having a hell of a time trying to sell my Sportster. If you got it for $325 (which is a hell of a deal, where can I find one that cheap?) and only spend a few hundred on it you’ll be fine.

Its a salvage title, the pic up there is from the junkyards site.

So ill have a harder time, but it’ll be a cheap starter harley for a woman or smaller guy. But im not trying to sell it for alot. I know its salvage and plan to sell it as such.

I ended up buying a similar set of dyna forks thatll work. The front tire, wheel wont match the rear but thats the next guys problem.

Had a few people i know that own harleys say just replace the forks than fix the minimum. So for 125 bucks for the forks, 100 for a tire, and a free wheel.

So far im in it 550. Hell i may just keep it and ride it. Have a harley and a kawaski in the same garage.

The odd part is, im probably a good fit for this sportster. Im 6'1 140. If i keep iy that windshield is gone, if i sell it, the windshield stays.

I slapped the wheel on and rode it around the block. It aint powerful but harleys are cruisers not sport bikes.

For $550 I’d probably keep it, I love mine, but I want to start doing some longer rides, and a little more riding with the wife, and I just need more room.

Once its all put together ill ride it for a little while. May use it to take my MSF course so im good for another 3 years of cheaper insurance.

If i keep it, ill buy the kit that makes an 883 into a 1200. Saw them for 450ish on ebay.

At least now I can say I own a harley but ill probably catch shit for owning what most people call a “bitch bike”

I may pick up an exhaust. I want it to be a little louder. All if i keep it.

Sportsters are actually really good little bikes and I think they’re starting to loose their “bitch bike” reputation to all but the most hardcore Harley guys. I’ve never gotten shit for owning mine.

Its all ive ever heard about them. Most of my family excluding me owns a harley at all times.

My uncles are the hardcore harley guys. They ride in winter, rain whatever.

I usually bring the bike out on a decent day. Im not hardcore but more casual. I ride on good days. Ive got my harley rain suit even though I own a kawie.

Ended up selling it. Someone saw it in the garage and wanted it. Bought it for 1000 as is. Even with the bent forks. Told them to come by tomorrow to get the replacement parts I ordered.

Made 450 and didnt have to do jack shit. I ended up buying a 07 CBR1000RR that needs some real work for 1500. It’s missing all it’s body panels, needs tires and a battery. It’s got a clean title though. So it should be an easy fix. I am probably going to keep this one. It’ll be purty when I’m done.

Going to make it white.
