One of the perks of being part of the Texas Auto Writers Association is that you get to chose the Car of Texas (and yes the more famous Truck of Texas in a separate event).

So this year I had the laborious task of driving lots of crazy cars on a Formula One track in Austin, at Circuit of the Americas. That’s the sort of dedication I have! 2 days of driving these cars on track. The AMG GT-S below won for performance car, edging out the mighty (but aging) GTR:

This year the competition for overall car was stiff including: Alfa Romeo 4C, Lexus RC-F, Dodge Demon Hellcat, Dodge Challenger, Jeep SRT, Mercedes AMG GTS, Nissan GTR, Fiat 124 Spider Abarth, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio (QV), and many others.

I have a full review of the actual car of the year but to see some of the competitors (including my neck snapping in launch control of a HEMI, see below:
