The classic Apple air vent mount dislodged one of the things in the AC vent, and the window ones are too noisy on bumpy roads, so most are out. I’m looking for the least obtrusive, less taxi driver/ubery one possible. I want something that makes the phone look like it is floating on the dash.

I use a RokForm case and magnetic car mount. The cases are great, I’ve used them since 2011 and I have never had a phone break in one. If you don’t want the case I think they have a thing that sticks the magnet on the back of your phone now.
Real easy to put on and remove, just like picking your phone up off of a table except it’s vertical on your dash.

Not this one:
Sucks for all sorts of reason, but mostly because it bounces around.
I previously had the official HTC mount for my HTC One, which was great, but HTC stopped offering those after the M8. I’m really surprised that even high volume sellers like the iPhone don’t get a good device specific mount though.

I suspect the non-charging model is better, both because it is lighter, and because it doesn’t shine a bright blue charging light in your face while you are trying to drive at night.

As long as your car has an appropriately placed air vent that you don’t move around often, the Kenu Airframe is by far the best mount I’ve ever used. Super compact, simple, stays in place, super easy to get your phone in and out, cheap. Can’t be beat. Has worked great on any BMW and non-round vent Audi I’ve tried.

What’s the point of these? Why can’t your phone stay in your pocket or bag?...I just hate how tacky these clips and gps clips look. Never seemed to have a need to see my phone while driving.

Mine broke my driver side air vent, it dislodged one of the lateral vent things. It’s one of the big bulky ones.

I love mine! It has my car on it. Check out the site. It is a collapsing attachment for your phone. Additional car attachment. It has made holding my phone much nicer, works as a stand, adds a little flair, and holds my phone in the car.

If you are worried about speed traps you are going too fast yet still too slow....you are going fast enough to attract attention but slow enough they will actually try to pull you over.

Their positions are posted online somewhere. Sounds like laziness to me...then you put these ugly things on your dash. I’m memorized every turn on a 22-mile mountain road I drive all the time.....speed traps can’t be that hard.

+1. They’re pricey, but worth it IMO. It’s more stable and secure than anything else I’ve tried so far (especially for large phones) and all the modular pieces are nice for building out something that will work well for any application. For my Outback, I put the adhesive mount to use in the cubby pictured below because I never found a good use for it (too small + gets hot when closed). Now I have a phone mount that doesn’t block any part of the windshield, vent, stereo, etc.

If the top of your dashboard is fairly flat I highly recommend this one.
I have one in my Tahoe and it is perfect. It’s a but chunky but it is all soft material and doesn’t make any noise. Plus once you get the hang of it you can insert and remove your phone one handed.

My car has a nice little feature. Flip open the pocket/ashtray door and between it and the shift boot, it nicely holds my shitty LG G Vista, and I have a short USB plug going to the charger above it on the right.
So far no amount of hoonage has dislodged it, but I’m afraid if I DO get in an crash, it will go a-flyin.

Another vote here for this one. The metal plate fits under my Note 4's removable cover and is very sturdy. Strong magnet. Two different sized slits for thick and thin vent slats. All for $7 on Amazon.
