Picked up this 26 gallon compressor for $50 from an estate auction. Hopefully it will be enough to (very slowly, panel by panel) paint my upcoming project car.

Depending upon that specific compressor’s output, that is probably enough compressor to paint your entire car. I had no problem painting my entire racecar with my 30 gallon, 120v, craftsman compressor and an old suction paint gun. While my compressor ran most of the time while I was spraying, it never failed to keep up. Newer HPLV guns should flow even less air.

That’ll be WAY more than enough for one panel at a time. As stated you may be able to do an entire vehicle.

I would search for a LVLP gun that uses less airflow. One of your biggest problems is going to be condensation in the tank and water getting pushed through the line. You can rig up some copper lines to cool and a water trap to help combat that problem.

A moisture trap would definitely be in the cards for spraying.
