Sure there are, if its over 8501 GVWR its mostly safe. EDIT - your link was kinja’d so I obviously take back my statement.

This is for 2011-2016 Silverado/Sierra Duramaxes, so they’re over 8501.

““ To appeal to environmentally conscious consumers , GM markets its Silverado and Sierra Duramax vehicles as having low emissions , high fuel economy , and powerful torque and towing capacity. GM charges a premium of approximately $5,000 for diesel-equipped vehicles over

comparable gas vehicles,” the suit said.”

Um. No.

1. GM isn’t not appealing to environmentally conscious consumers. I’m sure there are some out there but GM is NOT marketing their diesels as an environmentally friendly alternative to gas.

2. They don’t market emissions other than to say it meets current standards and they don’t even RATE the trucks for fuel economy so its hard to market that.

What a witch hunt.

It also alleged German auto parts maker Bosch was “an active and knowing participant in the scheme,” by supplying electronic diesel controls that allowed GM to implement defeat devices.

I hate this line of thinking so much. How do people think supplying a tool constitutes grounds for a suit if the end user does something illegal with it. Say a bank robber rents a car and uses it as his get away vehicle, the bank doesn’t get to sue the rental car company because they supplied the vehicle that allowed him to get away.

This was one thing when it was just VW... but it’s what, BMW, FCA, GM now? All using Bosch stuff?

Sounds to me like time to drop the fines to VW and stick them on Bosch instead.

because these suits are started by lawyers who go fishing for clients to turn it into a “class action.” That way, said lawyers make a ton of money.

You all have to remember, the VW debacle started when someone measured what was coming out of the cars’ tailpipes. They had numbers. Where are the numbers here?

I want to see the data that says they’re cheating. I don’t want bluster from ambulance chasers, I want numbers.

Well, I can see starting to point fingers if the controls in all the alleged cheating vehicles (VW, FCA, BMW, GM now right?) are from Bosch. Playing off your example, if there are 4 bank robberies in a fairly close span of time all whose thieves got away or attempted to do so in vehicles from the same rental lot, you’d start to get suspicious.

Of course, that’s assuming that all four were robberies. If one was a robbery and all the others were people that went inside to bank instead of using the ATM it’s a different story. (So far the only one of these that’s been proven is VW. It blew up in a big hurry. BMW was right on it’s heels. Nothing. FCA... yup. This isn’t the first lawsuit against GM for this--there was another last summer. Nothing from that either. I’d have expected some sparks by now)

Also there was the suit filed last summer from 9 (nine) [I repeat NINE] Cruze owners. A third of the claims they made couldn’t be supported at the time. What’s happened? The VW thing blew up in a big hurry. What’s going on?

That’s also assuming correlation equals causation. Maybe the robbers rent from that rental lot because they don’t verify identity? Maybe Bosch’s system is easier to modify? That doesn’t necessarily imply intent.

It’s not assuming anything. And you’re right, it doesn’t imply intent.

But it does provide grounds for investigation. There is the correlation there and it should be examined. If they find nothing wrong? Great. If they do find something... well it’s a good thing you gave them a second glance, isn’t it?

The list doesn’t stop there .

Add Volvo, Nissan, Hyundai, Ford, PSA, LR, Mercedes and Honda.

Most makers use Bosch gear because Bosch are the longest established maker of diesel injection equipment.

The suit has numbers. The data, at first blush, looks convincing...its only when you dig into the methodology that it gets a little fishy.

1. they used 1 vehicle.

2. They make a lot of dangerous assumptions about emissions systems operations like temperature sensors that are meant to be easily fooled.

3. They included “timeout defeat” data that doesn’t go beyond a few minutes.

Its kinda full of holes.

I thought there were more but I couldn’t name them... safer to underestimate on this one :)

I reckon these are the possibilities:

a) Several cheaters, all on their own.

b) All cheaters, Bosch supplying the means deliberately to make it’s equipment seem better. Automakers innocent.

c) All cheaters, on their own.

d) VW cheated, the rest are attempted cash grabs.

A and D make the most sense to me. D most of all, but hey...
