If Brands Could Trade Models Then Which Ones Would They Trade?

I think Honda would trade the Ridgeline for the Subaru BRZ. Hmm, if the BRZ were a Honda then it would still be named the BR-Z. Think about that!

Note that I mean the trades would be the same powertrains, options, styling, and price points. The only thing changing is the badges and what dealer you buy them from. I think the BRZ and Ridgeline could pass for a Honda and a Subaru with just an emblem swap.

Straight badge swap you say? No strings attached?

The FR-S/86 outsells the BRZ 4 to 1. I’m not sure Honda could change that, and “niche” isn’t really their thing. Except for, perhaps, the Ridgeline.

I just had an 86 from the press fleet for a review, and I don’t know why Honda would want any part of that.

Chrysler would change the 200 for the Camry.

Competent suspension and fun haven’t really been their forte lately, I agree.

The suspension’s great and it’s fun to drive, but the interior is disappointing and I think it’s overpriced.

I was offered a base 86 for 25k before even negotiating. The midrange dip is my biggest criticism, I kind of expect a cheap interior at that price. I could see it being a dealbreaker for some.

Yeah, I recently saw them being offered at 0% or 0.9% for 72 months. But I have to write my reviews based on what they’re presenting to me as much as what’s actually going on in real life, and the one I drove was not worth its ~28k sticker, except maybe to someone who really, really wanted it and could get awesome financing. Perhaps also relevant is that my loaner had an automatic, which increased the price and decreased the fun, but I don’t usually get a choice in such matters.

I also drove it back-to-back with a Mazda3, which of course is going to alter value perception a little. Of course the Mazda3 had less power, but was fully loaded and cost a few thousand dollars less.

Not sure if it’s still the case, but when the Toyobaru first came out the agreement between Toyota and Subaru mandated that the Toyota version outsell the Subaru version.

Chrysler would change the 200 for a day-old sandwich
