I dislike the wing. I think it looks ugly and a wingless trunk makes the lowered look much nicer. I tried browsing some junk yard sites for a silver EX trunk, but there was not silver civic (shocking) with a trunk that wasn’t in 129481 bits. I could go the harder route and get the holes welded shut, sanded, and the trunk repaited....but I have no idea 1) where to even start with that and 2) how much that’d cost.

It still may be cheaper to buy a used lid than to have the holes welded shut and the decklid repainted. Either way, you’re painting top side and underside of the decklid, and removing emblems/trim/license plate. Really the question is part replacement price versus labor to weld shut the holes and mud over.  Either way you’re on the hook for paint/material expense.

The kicker will be that most silver paints (I’m guessing yours is NH623M) is a bastard to panel-paint match, and most shops will want to blend into quarters to get a good color match.

I’ve wanted to do this on my Civic ever since I got it too. The original owner I bought it from was very proud of the optional factory wing that he has professionally installed. Where I would have been happier without it. But other than keeping an eye on Craigslist for people parting out Atomic Blue sedans that I could grab a trunk lid from, I have’t gotten any further.

Also if you have the factory wing with the LED brake light keep in mind you will need to figure out something else for a CHMSL. In my car the interior third brake light is still there just with no bulb or harness. But I’m not sure if that is also the case for the ones that came from the factory with a wing.

In the alternative, you might look through the hole plug drawer in the hardware section of your preferred home improvement store. You might find some rubber or plastic hole plugs that will do the trick (at least temporarily) and seal with a dab of silicon.

Agreed, but:

a) It’s my gross.

b) I didn’t have to pay for it.

c) Everything in here is dusty and impossible to keep in any other condition, so meh.

Just for grins, I checked my mixing room. Sikkens gives me 13 sample formulas for NH623M, and two alternate variants that require a test sprayout to check match.

Face and flop look entirely different, too.

Check the paint code. I don’t think it’s the same color as the base Civics.
