I’m usually not much of a fan of sport trucks, but this one works.

I remember when these came out that they were quicker around some circuit (I want to say laguna seca) than the 350. There is one near me for sale thats in good condition. Just sits on the lot in 4wd only Utah.

EDIT: its seems as though it was only benchmarked against a Z.

It always bugged me how small the tires are.

I love looking at them. Driving them on the other hand.....

The early days of electronic throttles were a dark time. Press pedal....nothing. Press pedal more.....nothing. Press pedal like 3/4 of the way down....FULL THROTTLESOMUCHTORQUETIMETOSHIFT. Repeat for every gear.

I’ve heard tales of piggyback things that go between the harness and the throttle body that even things out, but damn are they bad stock.

If you put a body matched cap on this and I looked at it really quickly out of the corner of my eye I might think it was a Forester.

This and the X-treme S10 bug the shit out of me. No power gains, still can’t handle like a car and now can’t do many truck things. They literally only make sense if you are only going to haul a quad/dirt bike. You know because monster energy and Extreme sports and the X-games and bro and yea bro and, and, and ...

I really liked them when they came out. I would be tempted to buy one if it was a true 4 door and I could put kids in the back.

If one were going to be old school about it and pull your formula ford (or other very light open wheel race car) on an open trailer, I could think of worse ways to get to the track.

I partially agree with you on the point that the S10 Xtreme and X-Taco definitely should have come with more powerful engines or at least had them available as an option... Shoot half of the Xtreme S-10s even had the awful 2.2L 4cyl engine. Both companies definitely missed the point on that one. And don’t even get me started on the SS S-10s...

But as far as being less useful, that’s just not true. In my experience lowered trucks are all around far more easy to use. They handle way better on road, they get better highway fuel mileage due to the smaller frontal area, and they and they are drastically easier to load and unload. The only thing they can’t do well is go off road. Which for most people honestly isn’t even an issue.

Yeah that would bug the crap out of me. I frigging hate electronic throttles.

Just the other day I tried to accelerate my Tahoe into a gap in traffic and the stupid thing just would not go even with my foot flat on the floor. I seriously could have gotten out and jogged faster. It was definitely a code brown moment, but fortunately the car behind me had enough space to slow down. Still, I felt like a monumental tool for pulling out into traffic and going that slow.

I didn’t even know the SS S10 existed, ooof. But yea those are fair points, I guess I just view them as a marketing ploy because everything had to be XTREME around that time. If they wanted that image to be accurate they need more power.

Oh you’re 100% right on that point. They were definitely gunning for the EXTREME sports crowd with these trucks. The lowering I was okay with, but the body kits are where they lost me. This is exactly why I have always lusted after a ZQ8 Sonoma or S10. But they are impossible to find, especially clean un-fooled around with ones. The Zq8 trucks got the Xtreme suspension but with even better looking wheels and no goofy body kit.

GM easily has the worst ones I’ve ever experienced. Mazda and Honda seem to have it together though, you can’t hardly tell.

Yeah I also have a Civic, an ‘08, and it’s not bad. It’s noticeable sometimes just in the fact there’s a little lag. But it has never just blatantly ignored me like my Tahoe will. But I’m sure they’ve all gotten better over time. However on some level it still just bugs me to know that there in a computer between my foot and the throttle blade trying to interpret my intentions.
