Kinja'd!!!

After picking up the Pao from Rotterdam Port last week I checked for necessities on it before taking it to the authorities to have it registered. Seems the front shocks are totally off so I’ll have to find replacement for those: probably just Nissan Micra shocks. I took out it’s headlights as these are going to “a guy” that makes ‘m less RHD. So I won’t blind oncoming traffic.

Kinja'd!!!

And that seems to be all, for registering it that is. I’ll do some maintenance to give it a fresh start in Euroland, some hoses under the hood seem to be at it’s end and the timing belt is over 25 years of age (despite it’s supposed to last 120k, the car is slightly over 90k). Too bad those trimpieces don’t seem to be readily available, I’d like a new grille as well ;-)

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, the ring around it’s headlight seems to be cracked a bit at that mounting point...

Nooo, you stole her eyes, the poor thing! (the Pao must be a she, right?)

Too bad about the small issues with trim pieces, but it is a 25 year old car after all. I hope Flavien will be able to help you with those bits.

How does your Citroën specialist like working on a Nissan?

Cant wait to do some JDM meets together Joep!

She’s a she. Not sure on the Be-1 yet though.

Even Flavien has to settle for used parts but I’m glad he’s pointing me in the right direction for that. Can’t we (you with your engineering background!) just make these ourselves somehow?

Haha, Gerard (the Citroën Specialist) handles all kinds of power!

Kinja'd!!!

His shop is behind my old house so we were neighbors at one point, he still does all my winter tires.

Obviously I won’t make it next weekend to Boxtel, when is the next?

Also: I need to go to Rotterdam for the headlights, wanna do coffee while I’ll wait for it? At least: that’s where I thought you lived ;-)

Well the Be-1 is only slightly more masculine, so I get why you’re not sure about that one yet.

I think 3D printing should be possible, as I’m guessing the originals are plasic too, but making a model for that might just be a problem. I found a few options to either have parts 3D scanned, either using professional stuff, or using a simpler photo based method(seems quite failure prone to me), so maybe that is an option. Not quite sure how cost efficient that would be.

Haha, that’s quite something different than a Pao, or a Citroën for that matter, so it is in good hands indeed.

Yeah, on the other hand: I can’t be the only one running into this, maybe I should have a small batch produced if the quality is decent...

That Pantera sounds frightening. Probably not as frightening as your uncle’s Daytona but still...

That could be quite a good idea actually. And making the batch larger will also lower the costs per piece. This company in Breda looks quite skilled in scanning (automotive) parts, for instance: http://studio-id.nl . If you’d need any changes to those scans I could probably help you.

Once you have a 3D file, you can just have as many printed in a lot of different materials, at many places.

Pantera’s are so awesome! It needs the frightening sound to match the looks. Also don’t forget that the Daytona is the less frightening of the Shelby pair, the completely open sidepipes of the Cobra are way more frightening.

Oh no! The poor thing is blind! I would imagine all trim pieces, grille, etc. are made of unobtanium at this point. But, maybe there’s a way to freshen up that grille. Did they recycle any body parts from the Micra? Maybe that headlight ring is from another car? That car still looks awesome. I like that it has a little patina. Goes with the style.

The lights have been converted today, maybe I’ll be able to have it tested next week!!! No idea how to refresh those pieces. The light rings probably can be 3d printed or reproduced by a local shop. Can’t I just paint those plastic pieces?

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)

I’m sure you can paint anything you want. That’s what I was thinking about refreshing. Here’s a place that has some parts. Sure ain’t cheap, though.

MOOOHAHAHA! $240 FOR ONE USED, DE-COLORIZED HEADLIGHT? I CAN HAVE TWO FOR $40 IN JAPAN !

Kinja'd!!! "Jonee" (Jonee)
05/28/2017 at 13:45, STARS: 1

Haha. Right? Japanese parts sellers who advertise to overseas buyers are often a ripoff. I could get Fuldamobil headlights for less than 240 bucks and they made way fewer of them than Paos. You should snatch that pair up. You never know when you’re going to need one.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. Then again: 3d printing really gets off as we speak in the Dutch classic market!

What material do they use with the 3D printing? Can they do metal parts?

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)
06/02/2017 at 04:45, STARS: 1

The classic car company I know just uses plastics. For stuff like ventilation grids. No idea on the metal. You need that?

06/04/2017 at 17:40, STARS: 1

A lot of people would need metal 3D printing. Think of all the unobtanium trim pieces we could have. I was thinking of your headlight rings. I’ve had stuff like shift linkages fabricated for the Fuldamobil by a metal guy, but little delicate stuff takes a specialist.

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)

Metal would work as well, all you need is a 3D-design. No idea on the costs. With the rings I’m getting help by BvdV - the Dutch Engineer.

How do you mean? The machine can’t print metal, so how do you do it?

Oh, good. Is he going to fix ‘em, or make new ones?

Kinja'd!!! "Jobjoris" (Jobjoris)

There are machines that  CAN print metal. It’s 2017 dude!

He’ll help creating a 3d file for it.
