All I can say is: If you have crooked teeth and it bothers you that you have crooked teeth, get it fixed!

Some people can live with it but for me it always really bothered me so I pretty much never smiled.

2 years of braces is a very small price to pay for a lifetime of smiles.

You are never too old to get it done. I got the braces when I turned 30 and now at 32 I’m set for life.

Could’t be happier with the results.

Cost for braces in Alberta was $9,000. Benefits covered $4,500 of that. I put $1,000 down with the rest spread over 30 months with zero interest at $116/month.

Not many for $4,500 bucks. Not many that are worth buying that’s for sure.

I had them as a kid but they put a wire on the inside of my lower teeth, it is still there.

I have the inside wire up and down. Which is nice because now I only need retainers at night rather than all the time.

I do love the results, but it’s hard to keep them straight and it is quite expensive (and a bit embarrassing when an adult). You’ll forever be using a retainer to keep them from moving too much. Thankfully, it’s unlikely they’ll get severely bad once they’ve been straightened.

I spent nearly 5 years of my life with braces due to pretty sloppy alignment followed by an accident that left them slowly getting worse and worse. I had to get them realigned over nearly two years so the doctors would know where to put my implant. It got a lot worse than this, but I won’t go into it. In spite of the cost, implants are totally worth the money - it’s about as close to a real front left tooth I’ve had since before my accident when I was 16.

I lost my retainer in high school, so before 1996, my teeth are straight so I guess the bottom wire is doing something for the top too. I remember he said that the lower ones guided the upper, my bite is perfect so who knows. I had braces on for a year or so and then I wore a retainer for a few years. I forget the wire is there really.

Can’t believe they were able to do that in just 2 years. Were you in pain everytime there was an adjustment?

Many people don’t realize that misaligned teeth lead to alignment problems and excessive wear in the joint where the lower jaw connects to the skull. This can lead to hearing problems down the road.

On my first trip to an orthodontist, he stuck his fingers in my ears, pulled forward (toward my nose), and told me to open my mouth. The left side made a loud pop and the right side crunched. He said to me, “the cartilage on the left side is gone and on the right side it is torn.” That’s when I learned about the importance of proper jaw alignment. It also explained why my jaw hurt all the time.

After two years of braces, the alignment of my teeth and my jaw were corrected and they are still good today. No more popping or crunching sounds from either side.

I have one tooth that is damn near rotated 90 degrees. All the others are fine. I keep debating getting it fixed, but would want to go the Invisalign route or I won’t do it.

This is all true. I was having all sorts of oral health issues beyond just the cosmetics. The braces fixed all of it. I was personally doing it for cosmetics but when I was explained everything I had problems with and the issues I’d face down the years if left untreated it became s toyal no brainer.

Nowadays they put a permanently bonded wire behing your teeth up and down and this serves as your main retainers that stay in for life. You only where the traditional retainer at night to maintain the aligment of your jaw.

Unless your teeth are all over the place like mine were you should be able to get the invisalign. The traditional mouth full of wires are for the more severe cases.

I’ll be totally honest. The first 2-3 months were not very pleasant. The first month being damn near unbearable. But after that it is damn near painless. When they do an adjustment your mouth will feel tighter but it is definitelly not painfull. Normally within a day or two you no longer feel it.

You would be amazed. Most of the magic is done in the first 3 months which explains why it was so painfull there was A LOT (!!!) Of movement. Honestly after 3 months I was about 80% of the way to the end result.

I had braces when I was in middle school, and after the braces were removed, I kept wearing my retainers as I was directed. Nevertheless, I’m 30 now and my dentist wants me to consider getting braces again, not only for the basic health and upkeep of my teeth, but also as a foundation for any cosmetic dental work I might want done down the road. I’m open to the idea, but costs (I live in the U.S.) are a serious hurdle.

Interesting. I have never seen this before. Would almost like to have them installed, but wouldn’t know what orthodontist to ask. Mine was well over 1k miles away from where I live now and I believe he retired a while back.
