I set about finding where my brake fluid is going on the ‘69.

Kinja'd!!!

It wasn’t hard to find since a couple pumps of the brakes left a nice little puddle forming behind the right rear wheel. I pulled the wheel off and the caliper to find one of the seals is shot.

I call advanced Auto to see when I’d be able to get a new one by. But wait, they have one in stock! And only one, shit. And it’s the right rear! Jackpot!

I head over there fork over $70 and go home and install the new one.

All in all from start to finish including 30 min to go pick up the part this took less than 2 hours. I love when things just fall into place.

My dad’s going to stop by tomorrow to help me bleed the brakes, so it’s not completely done yet.

In stock? Well, that’s a pleasant surprise!

Were these used in a lot of other GM applications over the years? Brake caliper for a C3 Corvette seems like an awfully odd thing for Advance to just have in stock. Whatever, though, awesome luck!

I’m not sure, I doubt it since they are 4 piston calipers. I was pleasantly surprised too that they had one in stock.

It certainly was. I even asked the guy if he was being serious.

Yeah, I’m looking at these thinking what the hell else could’ve used them. Very few GM cars even had discs in that era let alone 4-caliper rears (though I suppose a Corvette rear could hypothetically match the fronts of a Chevelle or something).
