Kinja'd!!!

Moving sucks. I’ve had my life upside down for a few weeks now trying to throw stuff out, haul a broken couch to the dump, deal with Comcast and get a bunch of stuff moved into storage. Luckily I found an entire shipping container to rent for $200 a month which is where I’m at now, waiting for the truck to arrive so I can be done with all the stress.

That’s SF and Sutro tower in the distance and the USS Hornet off to the left.

That license plate on tow hook setup sure is quite unique.

Your BMW CCA badges are tripping me out. They’re like boogers in the kidney grille nostrils.

I believe the logic behind them is they allow for running a front plate without drilling holes in the front bumper.

Or running plate-less most of the time but putting the plate on for longer trips just in case.

I bought my car used and it had a front plate bracket, which I promptly removed and “filled” the holes with color matched plastic plugs. You can see them but they kinda blend in and look like they might be parking sensors.

The real parking sensors are at the lower outer corner of each kidney grille, the plugs for the license plate bracket are in the middle.

I am aware of that, I just don’t think that it improves the looks or is worth the hassle.

Aye. Exactly.

The parking folks here are both clever and lazy and once they find you with no plate they will ticket your car every single day without fail. It’s that or drill.

That car has bats in the belfry in more ways than one.

I live somewhere that I can get away with no plate all the time. I’ve had no front plate the past 4 years and no problems whatsoever. But if I lived somewhere that I was more likely to be hassled for no front plate, I’d consider doing the tow hook plate mount if only to avoid drilling into the bumper. Yeah it’s ugly, but at least you can quickly remove it when you don’t need the front plate, and there’s no holes in the bumper.

BTW I don’t know which tow hook mount you have but I think the US Mill Works one gets the plate closer to the bumper. Unless of course that’s what you have.

The problem is the parking sensors. If the plate is too close or not at the exact right spot the car bleeps like nuts every time I go into reverse. What I’ve got there is the best option in a no win situation.
