Kinja'd!!!

The actual seam welding began, After the jump.

Stripped all the glue off with a flathead screwdriver and an x-acto knife. Then went over it with a wire wheel on a drill.

Kinja'd!!!

The $100 welder is only slightly better than you expect it to be, combined with my vast experience with sheet metal not all of the tack welds look acceptable.

Kinja'd!!!

I also welded all the way around the door jam.

Kinja'd!!!

Now I have to go do the other door jam when I get motivated enough(it takes forever)

that is some NICE progress. but as long as you are already there...... and its already took apart this far....... why not finish welding it out?.....

no, i meant putting in a full bead.(a whole lot of tacks in between your already there tacks)

it IS a lot of work, but if you have the time to do it......

I’m not good enough to lay a bead along metal this thin(with a harbor freight welder), and I thought the heat may weaken the metal. But some sections are going to get more welds because the first ones don’t seem good enough.

yeah i hear you. the other day i repaired a broken header, and i had forgotten how thin the metal was. took FOREVER to reseal all of my burn throughs before i got my speed and pressure down. if anything it will usually warp it, from the excess heat. but a lot of those tacks are fine.

That Corvette ahead of you — is that a diffuser attached to a rear frame supporting the wing? I’ve got a C4 I’m turning into a track car and while the fuel filler is handy in the middle of the top of the trunk area for putting fuel in, mounting anything is a sizable logistical problem.

Nice Lexus btw. High five.

running full beads adds weight but not strength. I know it doesn’t make sense but its true.

yeah, youre right...... i have just gotten into the habit of trying to weld everything that is within reach, and then some. and my welds are not exactly the best in the world, so some days i have to make up for quality with coverage.......
