The dumb ass script is the BS, if the kid was 40 it might be funny.

Rebuttle:

Dodge is absolutely terrible.

The interiors are awful, with the exception of a couple of examples - the engines are mediocre, the chassis for several of their cars is a combination of old Chrysler junk and old Mercedes bits.

I have driven several Chargers and Challengers and I have walked away exceptionally disappointed every single time.

Whenever I give Dodge a chance, they let me down.

If you can’t take criticism, then ignore it. :)

I think that complaining about interiors and handling is lame. I’d rather have the money spent on the engine and being a little hard to control in the corners just makes you feel more accomplished when you get it right.

Why not have a decent interior and handling with the other pieces? Why settle for just a decent engine?

My interior is terrible, but my car’s handling and engine are decent. I settled for a car with poor interior, but it’s also an old interior, so it’s to be expected.

There is little excuse for Dodge to use such a poor and old chassis and to have such terrible interiors in a modern car.

Dodge had one exceptional car, and they killed it. The Challenger and Charger are lacking in many areas. I didn’t even bring their exceptionally poor reliability into the conversation. Hopefully they get their act together one of these days. Would be nice to see them become competitive with Ford and Chevrolet.

But. the 15/16 SRT and hellcat cars have a much nicer interior compared to other trims and definitely compared to previous gens. Still nothing like a nice Mercedes or BMW or Audi. And our 17 Ram 2500 interior is beautiful. Definitely the nicest interior ive seen from Dodge/Chrysler

How do you like the Hellcat?

That’s the only trim I haven’t had the chance to drive yet. Every time I’ve come close, the person on the other end is hesitant and then backs out because “707hp!1!”

Have you been able to tune it, or is a stand alone still the only option for a real tune?

If I’m completely honest, I didn’t hate the Scat Pack Challenger I drove last Fall. The tires were woefully not up to the task, but it at least didn’t feel quite as heavy as the fully loaded SRT’s that are typically on the lots.

The 15/16 is better than what they had in there before, but it still could use improvement. The layout is kinda funky and the materials could be nicer. The biggest shock to me with the Challenger Scat Pack I drove was that the car had an interior rattle with less than 100 miles on the clock.

Haven’t even sat in a newer Ram, but I’ll take your word for it.

I love it. For what it is, its a good bargain i think. They did a great job with the engine obviously, but really the transmission is wonderful. And the driving modes (track, sport, street) make a significant difference with the transmission and suspension. Tuning is available for them. You have to get an unlocked PCM and then you can tune it. The TQ curve is really flat, so you have full TQ pretty much anywhere, any rpm. Very driveable on the street. Its only as hairy as you decide to drive it

Money.

Engines cost money. Nice interiors cost money. Well designed and built suspensions cost money. My budget really can pay for one out of the 3.

Besides, there’s a certain charm in a car that ignores refinement and comfort in the pursuit of speed and power.

The car I loved the most out of all that I’ve owned was an ‘04 Mach 1. The interior was likely worse than any modern Dodge (seriously, hard plastic everywhere). The handling was unpredictable with sudden oversteer but with a lot of grip. But that engine... It responded instantly with all the power it could make and had a fat midrange and a beautiful noise, all backed with a decently spaced 5 speed with a magic MGW shifter on top.

It was an animal that the driver had to learn to tame, not a car that did it all for you. That aggressive nature gave it a character that hasn’t been matched by any other car yet. I miss it.

Give me the engine, and I’ll learn to tame it. You can keep the well tuned suspension and nice interior and electronic nannies and toys.

I’m not saying a car needs electronic nannies and toys.

I had a similar ownership experience with my old 03 cobra. The engine was fantastic and extracting over 500hp was a breeze.

But the chassis was seriously lacking and left me wanting so much more. It didn’t help that I had previous cars that handled exceptionally well but had significantly less power.

That’s why I ditched the Cobra and picked up a Z06.

I’m not saying that everyone can go without compromise, I’m saying that the area to compromise is not the chassis.

I’ll take a well sorted chassis over an engine any day. Thankfully I have both at the moment.

I mean this with no disrespect, but have had the chance to track something like a Z06 or an E92 M3, etc? Something with a well sorted chassis? The feeling is fantastic. Instead of wrestling with the car, you find yourself using your energy to get better and better, slowly extracting more of the handling prowess out of the vehicle. It’s exilerating.

Part of the reason why I emphasize handling over raw power is because the thrill from more power is fleeting. I became quickly accustomed to the power of my cobra and it took only weeks to get used to my z06, to the point where it doesn’t even feel that quick any more. And i could keep addong more power, but you reach a point where it becomes prohbitively expense. Such was the case with my DSM from years ago.

But it will be some time before I am able to fully tap the potential of the handling of my current car. I may never fully realize the car’s potential.

That’s just my take. I understand yours, but I feel like you’re missing out on something by discounting the importance of a good chassis.

Took a few laps on a track in a Ferrari F430. It was a fun experience, but underwhelming. Maybe if I had all day to learn to get it right I would like it more, but that day I wish I had that Mach 1 instead. Off the track, that goes double. I’d rather have something slower and entertaining than having more grip than I can use.

But all of this was just to point out that some people don’t care about interior quality or chassis as much as you do. That was the entire point of that 6 year old’s “rant” in the vid.

I’m aware. My initial post was a tongue in cheek comment that was directed at the OP, who is very much into Dodge vehicles. It was meant to represent a comment that is the exact opposite of what the OP is proposing - it was a somewhat inflammatory opinion that was meant to be somewhat sarcastic.

They recognized what I was doing and took it exceptionally well and then we briefly talked about their car.

People do care about different things - which is why there is often friendly jabbing and competitiveness between different brands and car cultures. I agree that some people take it too far, but there’s no harm in mild ribbing. I don’t condone it at all when it leads to ignorance, but that isn’t always the case either.

Of course others can be interested in whatever they want and it has no real impact or bearing on me whatsoever. I might make a snide comment about a component of a car, but it’s not meant to be malicious or harmful. I talk down my own car as much, or more, than I point out the flaws in other cars.

It’s cool that you’re into cars with a decent engine and a mediocre chassis. I’ll likely point out the obvious faults in your car, but it’s just friendly ribbing. If someone can’t take it, I stop.

No worries, I knew I was taking it to seriously. Maybe I need to go have some fun in my car, I’m being too much of a grump. (God I wish I had a V8 and RWD again, I’ve found that I’m not a subaru fan).

Most of the time I just bring up discussions to have fun discussing it and to help people remember that not everyone wants the same thing.

I’d love to see what that Z06 could do on a track. Sounds like it’d be a ton of fun

I’ve nearly gone the Subaru route on a few occasions, but I’ve always balked before getting too serious.

How do you like the 2.5GT in general? At least, unlike WRX owners, you don’t have to worry too much about your transmission giving out on you.

I really can’t complain about it, it is comfortable and decently quick and has a ton of torque once you get above idle, and the problems I’ve had were mainly caused by a previous owner’s poor mods. (The radiator did start leaking and the clutch master blew a seal, but I consider those forgivable for a 12 year old car).

However, I grew up loving a V8's instant low down torque and RWD’s fight for traction, so something that can’t deliver torque until the boost builds and won’t spin the tires seems kind of annoying. Plus a sedan is my least favorite body style.

But a V8 powered RWD manual wagon is a very rare beast, and I’ve accepted that I’ll probably have to build one for myself someday.
