Kinja'd!!!

I’ve lost a lot of weight recently, which is great but I’m going way over the top with it as I do with all of my “hobbies” I love gummy candy, and there is no reason that I can’t eat the real thing. Still I decided to try a very small amount of sugar free gummy candy today, were talking about less than 10 large gummies...MISTAKE. Food poisoning is more fun.

I have a weak stomach, and there is a ton of info online about the side effects of candy sweetened with sugar alcohols...but I thought “fuck it, it can’t be that bad” Today friends, the internet was right.

I’ve lost about 20 pounds in the past 3 months from eating zero sugar and zero grains/carbs. But the other day, I went with the kids to a little pizza joint near us that serves pretty good gluten-free crust. Almost indistinguishable from flour dough.

I won’t say what happened for two continuous hours later than night, but it wasn’t pleasant.

This is 100% your fault. We’ve all read the Amazon reviews of sugar-free candies.

We’re on a similar diet. I cut out sugar almost completely, very minimal grains, and I only eat dinner on weekdays. I’m also down 20lbs and change, I can’t wait to get out on the Grom. That’s got to equal nearly 1 horsepower.

200% I’m well aware that if something has a stomach associated side effect, I will be affected. Also, yes I have read the amazon reviews but I forgot about them until it was too late.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

But yeah stay the fuck away from that sugar alcohol shit. It’s nasty.

I am immune to the sugar alcohols. I can eat as much sugar free candy as I like.

Back in grad school, so this would’ve been 13-14 years ago now, I impulse-bought a bag of sugar-free fun sized Herseys from the clearance bin at the gas station where I had just tanked up to make the 150 mile trip back home.

Now, I am not a man of many vices. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I’ve never used drugs ... but food is my one real vice. Having no knowledge of sugar-free candy and what it could do to your system, I proceeded to eat the whole damn bag.

Around mile 130, immediately after I passed an Oasis where I could’ve stopped, my stomach suddenly cramped and I got the most urgent “get to the bathroom right damn now” feeling I have ever experienced in my life. I had to hold it for 12 miles to get to the next Oasis.

My insides were tearing themselves apart. I broke into a cold sweat as I wondered if I would ever be able to get the smell out of my truck’s cloth seats if I shit my pants. The urge was so urgent I was pulling myself up by the steering wheel to clench my cheeks tighter.

I seriously considered the possibility of pulling over and shitting on the well lit concrete shoulder. Instead I put on more speed. I think that was the only time my S-10 saw the high side of 85mph in the entire four years I owned it.

I hauled ass up to the gas station door. I walked as fast as I could on my tip toes, for maximum clenching, and I just BARELY made it to the toilet before the world ended.

I’ve never eaten a piece of sugar free candy again.

I told myself to be ready for tier 2 after dealing with tier 1 for 2 months (tier 2 is me not eating any of the junk food i would frequently want). Well I thought I would be able to survive one trip to a birthday party. I barely ate any of the cake, etc but even that small amount & my stomach was like

“I told you not to eat that stuff no more didn’t I?? Now.... I will make you pay the price until you learn!”

Hah, I was more referring to my tendencies to take things too far. I didn’t need to eat sugar free gummies, but I did it anyway and it was terrible.

It was actually some generic ones from the bins at Wegman’s. I don’t think it matters though. Anything sweetened with sugar alcohols can cause the same effect. Felt like I was just pumped full of air!

Haha this is a great story, especially since you made it! I was not so lucky at the sandwich shop where I worked when I was 15. I ran home and never went back!

I’m down 30 pounds since January on keto. Carbs will fuck with your gut if your not used to them. For some reason, Atkins candy/sweets don’t mess with my stomach like other sugar free sweets. Also, fuck aspertame.

My biggest consumable sin was carbs. I was never a big sweets eater, or a drinker (a glass of scotch once every couple of weeks, MAYBE), so sugar was easy to get over. But bread, pasta, etc were a constant staple on our dinner table. So now it’s just meat and non-starch vegetables for me. I don’t even miss carbs anymore.

I have been giving myself three months to form one good habit/eliminate one bad habit before moving to the next stage. The end of May marks month three, so the next good habit to build is waking up at the ass crack of dawn (before dawn, really, at 4:45 am) and going to the neighborhood gym to walk on the treadmill for an hour. After doing that for three months, I expect to lose about 24-30 more pounds. Then comes the heavy lifting (and adding some good carbs to my diet to facilitate the muscle gains).

Fun story. My wife and I lost a bunch of weight a few years back and would only eat sugar free. So we went camping one weekend and brought a long a bag of sugar free reeses peanut butter cups. Figured they were fine overnight out on the picnic table because they were zipped in with an enclosure. We were wrong.

Racoon got in. Ate the entire bag.

To this day I still laugh my ass off about this raccoon out in the woods shitting it’s brains out as punishment for stealing my candy. I’m literally laughing right now typing it. It must have been thinking, I’ve stolen these before WTF WHY WON’T IT STOOOOOOOOP.

I only have sweet craving at night, before bedtime. I miss the bread, pasta, potatoes more than anything. Luckily, on my diet, I can eat all the bacon and eggs I want and still lose weight.
