I was thrilled to see my new tires reviewed up against the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in this month’s (May 2017) GRM, and even more thrilled to see them do pretty dang well against one of the premier street summer tires on the market - especially significant since the Pilot Sport tires are not offered for 16" wheels such as mine.

From the conclusion:

So, which would we choose? For more focused daily driving duties with frequent wet weather encounters, we’d select the Continental due to its resistance to hydroplaning at speed. For more consistent dry use with only occasional precipitation, the new Michelin would be on our car - especially if it’s a modern, high-performance vehicle with the latest stability and traction control systems.

It was definitely nice to see the Contis fare so well in the comparison, especially after taking a small gamble and recommending them over the Michelins (be it their current offerings or the PS4S once they get into 17" sizes) for my fiance’s FRS earlier this month. Now that I’ve had some time to drive around on them, I can confirm they are indeed as user-friendly as GRM says, with good communication, forgiving breakaway behavior, and their limit being a good step above responsible levels of spirited driving on the street. I’m guessing Michelin still won’t back down on their above-average pricing for these so the Contis seem the right choice for anyone not regularly chasing lap times.

As for your fiance, does he like them on his FRS?

I think he’s mostly ecstatic just to be done with the OEM rubber. He hasn’t had much else to compare it to yet, but was quick to pick up on how significant of an upgrade they were.
