I hit a new milestone today. A cp of over 2700, and annoyingly just shy of 2800. Before today my Espeon at 2445 was had been my strongest for a month or so. And before Es it was Arcanine at 2401, since like last October. I knew Rhyhorn had potential but this was a surprise. Took a shit ton of Stardust tho. All of my top 6 are maxed out.

Well I installed the Pokemon world championships here in SF, and seeing what came to that was a reinforcement that I should not partake. I also saw a kid flip out on a play structure at the park, my dog and myself thought he was in trouble but apparently he got a rare pookiman.

Still “play”, very casual. Just leave the game running when I go places to hatch eggs, get candy. That’s how I FINALLY got my Gyarados. Other than that, I haven’t battled much with these dudes.

I have one 2000+, a Snorlax, and that’s it. I’m impressed that you have an Espeon, Flareon, and Jolteon that high - I’ve always had far more luck getting Vaporeon considerably higher than all the others.
I also have an amusingly low Poliwrath that I found in the wild... something like 300...

A few reasons: I hatched a bunch (extra candy hatching vs catching), I targeted magikarp during the water event and used pinap berries on the east to catch ones, and one day I spent about an hour and a half at a water biome park. Since they released shiny magikarp/gyrados I’ve been going after them whenever they pop up vs other mon

We’re in a rock event right now. Get those ryhorn and geodude candies while you can. Supposedly larvitar are supposed to be more prevalent but I haven’t found that to be the case for me. I did get an aerodactyl and two onyx yesterday. Previously I’ve only hatched an aerodactyl and onyx.

I’ve seen Lavitar on my near by, but haven’t caught one. Caught an Onxy today, and lots of Geodude, and enough Kabuto, and Omnymite to evolve them. Also cuahgt a Shuckle, that was a fun one, spent like 15 minutes hunting it because it wasn’t near a pokestop. Usually chasing after a Pokémon in the wild is a wasted efforts but I found it.

Nice. I never catch anything that isn’t on the pokestop nearby. The very first day the game came out a venusaur popped up. Never found it. Have several now but it would’ve been awesome

Back when the old tracking system worked hunting in the “wild” was really fun, now it’s a totally guessing game. You basically have to be driving. Go a few blocks one way... oh it’s gone now... a few blocks the other way... it moved to second in the near by... drivea block the other way... hey there it is.
Usually doesn’t work that well tho. Helps when you know local spawn points. There are a few where even if the Pokémon is in the wild, I know where to go because I known that intersection, or that store is a common spawn point,

Yeah. This was literally the first and only wild Pokémon I saw. I downloaded the game around 11 pm or so. No idea what the footsteps meant or anything. Eventually I learned the spawn points for that particular street but it was too late.

Yup still play. Helps that I have access to two pokestops and a gym from my desk at work lol.
I need more distance to help with a lot of my guys. I pretty much just play from work and when I take the kids on walks.
Had it running on the riding lawn mower on friday night, that was a fun way to get distance without going TOO fast lol.
This rock promotion going on right now, I’m trying to catch as many onyx as I can. I’ve already got the steel to turn it into a steelyx. Keep finding geodudes though.

Yeah! I’ve done it to get all my highest Eevee evolves. And iirc Vaporeon was easily the highest. Espeon was a close second but Umbreon was really low for some reason. Jolteon and Flareon were in between.

It’s how they calculate CP. Attack is counted twice and speed isn’t counted at all. That’s why electric types come out lower than they would in regular games. They’re high attack and high speed in the normal games but without the speed factor in Go they come in low and are more specialists for taking out water types in gyms

Hmmm interesting... I never thought anything about how CP is calculated.
I’ve always just figured each Pokemon had some kind of cap and that cap is raised slightly each time you level up.

The second part is true. Your mon level cap mirrors your level (plus .5 I think). I tried looking up the cp equation but it’s confusing. I think speed is in it but less of a factor. Or something.

I’m not interested too much about the CP leveling and how that works because I know at the very core it’s limited by your level - it may be a fancier algorithm but not too interesting to me.
What I’d really love to know are the algorithms for catching Pokemon. What are all the factors that go into it - CP, player level, specific Pokemon, specific traits?? How much do Raspberries REALLY improve your chances? Do Nice/Great/Excellent throws actually improve your chances and if so, how much? What’s the difference in odds between the different Pokeballs? Are some Pokemon pre-determined to be impossible to catch and flee right away?
So many questions! I’d love to meet a programmer and/or logic designer for the game.
