Catalytic Converter installed wrong at the factory, rubbed a hole in the brake line. They are very fuckin lucky it didn’t rupture the fuel line.....

Turns out the wheel speed transducer connector was was wired backwards, this was the third tire that this aircraft had destroyed.

that PC case fan doesn’t surprise me, regulators and stators were notorious weak points on a lot of Japanese bikes from the ‘80s.

Yeah, I thought that was a pretty clever way to hack in some extra airflow. So was this just an extra boost for when the bike was standing still, or were they pretty much hot all the time, even at speed?

They run pretty hot, plus on metric bikes they tend to be behind covers. I don’t know if that bike has a field excited alternator (like a car) or a permanent magnet one. The latter run even hotter because they shunt excess charge current to ground. Harley sticks theirs up on the front of the frame for cooling.

Yeah, seems pretty cheap and convenient to just wire a PC fan into a 12V circuit. I don’t know how long it would last, but probably long enough that spending another $10 to replace it in the future is not a bad deal.
